CHANDIGARH, 23.05.26-Laghu Udyog Bharati, Chandigarh has submitted a representation to the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria Ji, regarding the proposed amendments in Master Plan-2031 and has demanded practical relief measures for the Industrial Area and MSME sector.

The organization appreciated the Chandigarh Administration for taking visionary and progressive steps towards vertical growth and planned development of the city. However, Laghu Udyog Bharati emphasized that certain proposed provisions related to industrial areas still require practical improvements to support MSMEs and strengthen Ease of Doing Business in Chandigarh.

The organization strongly demanded that the proposed 60% ground floor coverage for industrial plots should be increased to a minimum of 90%, considering the limited availability of land and the growing operational requirements of industries.

Laghu Udyog Bharati also demanded permission for Internal Changes and Internal Alterations in industrial units through a simple and transparent process so that industries can modernize and utilize their premises according to present-day requirements.

The organization further stated that the Service Industry has become an integral part of the MSME sector and should be officially permitted in Chandigarh’s industrial areas. It was also demanded that businesses directly serving industries such as Mill Stores, Iron Sheet and Pipe Traders, Hardware Suppliers, Automobile Spare Parts Dealers, and Car Repair with Services should be allowed to operate in industrial areas, as these activities have been functioning there for decades and are essential for industrial operations.

Regarding the proposed Migration Policy under the Zoning Framework, the organization expressed concern that many small and medium industries may not be financially capable of bearing the additional costs associated with migration. Laghu Udyog Bharati urged the Administration to ensure that the benefits of development and relief are made available equally to all industrial units and not restricted only to financially stronger units.

President of Laghu Udyog Bharati Chandigarh, Avi Bhasin, stated that MSMEs and industrial units are the backbone of Chandigarh’s economy and play a vital role in employment generation and local economic growth. He expressed hope that the Administration would adopt a balanced, sensitive, and practical approach while finalizing the amendments in Master Plan-2031 in the larger interest of the industrial sector and public welfare.
