Chandigarh, May 9:- In view of the ongoing summer season and the rising risk of fire incidents, Dr. Inder Jeet, Joint Commissioner-cum-Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Chandigarh Fire and Rescue Services, conducted surprise inspections at Fire Station Manimajra and DLF City Centre, IT Park, Chandigarh, to review emergency preparedness and fire safety compliance across the city.
During his visit to Fire Station Manimajra, the Chief Fire Officer undertook a detailed assessment of operational preparedness, manpower deployment, communication systems and emergency response capability of the station. Special emphasis was laid on the operational readiness of the Hydraulic Platform-cum-Turn Table Ladder (HPTTL), a specialised firefighting and rescue appliance used during high-rise fire emergencies and rescue operations.
Reviewing the preparedness in view of escalating summer temperatures, Dr. Inder Jeet directed the station officials to maintain round-the-clock alertness and ensure that all firefighting machinery, appliances and personnel remain fully prepared for immediate response to any emergency situation. He also stressed upon regular inspection, testing and maintenance of firefighting equipment to ensure optimum efficiency and swift response during emergencies.
Subsequently, the Joint Commissioner-cum-Chief Fire Officer inspected DLF City Centre, IT Park, Chandigarh, to examine the fire prevention and life safety arrangements installed within the commercial complex. During the inspection, certain shortcomings and discrepancies in the fire safety systems were observed.
Taking serious note of the deficiencies, Dr. Inder Jeet directed the mall management to undertake immediate corrective measures and strictly comply with prescribed fire and life safety norms. He reiterated that public safety remains the top priority and any negligence in fire safety compliance will invite strict action as per rules.
Chandigarh Fire and Rescue Services has intensified fire safety inspections and operational reviews across the city to strengthen emergency response capability and ensure protection of life and property during the summer season.
