Sanitation heroes honoured on labour day; MCC distributes sweets to safaimitras

Chandigarh, May 1:- Marking International Labour Day, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organized a heartfelt celebration to honour the tireless efforts of the city’s sanitary workers.

Acting on the directions of the MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the initiative was led by Sh. Balbir Raj Singh, Joint Commissioner, and Dr. Inderdeep Kaur, Medical Officer of Health.

In a city-wide gesture of appreciation, sweets were distributed at all sanitation attendance points, bringing smiles to frontline workers who ensure Chandigarh remains clean and green. A special interaction was also held in Sector 17, where officers personally engaged with workers, acknowledging their dedication, particularly during peak hours and challenging weather conditions.

The President of the Safai Karamchari Union reaffirmed the workforce’s commitment to sustaining and improving Chandigarh’s standing in the Swachh Survekshan.

Addressing the gathering, Joint Commissioner emphasized MCC’s continued focus on the dignity, welfare, and safety of sanitation workers. Dr. Inderdeep Kaur highlighted the importance of hygienic practices and worker health, noting that their commitment is central to public well-being.

Chandigarh, May 1:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out an extensive deep cleaning drive across designated street vending sites in the city, reaffirming its commitment to improving hygiene standards and ensuring the welfare of street vendors.

A special focus was laid on the vending zone in Manimajra, where comprehensive cleaning activities were undertaken. The drive included thorough washing of the vending surfaces, sanitization of drinking water points, cleaning of dustbins, and upkeep of signboards to create a safer and more hygienic environment for both vendors and visitors.

While speaking about the drive, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, said here today that the initiative reflects MCC’s proactive approach towards supporting street vendors by maintaining clean and organized vending spaces, which not only enhance public health but also contribute to better business conditions for vendors.

The Commissioner emphasized that maintaining cleanliness in vending zones is crucial for preventing health hazards and promoting a positive public experience. The Corporation remains dedicated to regularly upgrading civic amenities in such areas, ensuring that vendors can operate in dignified and hygienic conditions.

The drive was well received by local vendors, who appreciated the Corporation’s efforts in prioritizing their welfare and improving overall sanitation infrastructure.

MCC cracks down on illegal vendors; 52 challans issued in citywide drive

Chandigarh, May 1:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out a focused anti-encroachment drive across key areas of the city, including Sector 13 Manimajra, Mobile Market Sector 22, and Naya Gaon Barrier, targeting illegal street vending and unauthorized occupation of public spaces.

During the drive, enforcement teams issued a total of 52 challans to unregistered vendors found violating civic regulations. The operation aimed at ensuring smooth pedestrian movement, decongestion of busy market areas, and maintaining urban discipline.

In a parallel action, MCC also removed and impounded several dumped vehicles from the Mother Market area of Manimajra, addressing public inconvenience and reclaiming valuable parking space.
