Chandigarh, 17.04.2026-Sh. H. Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh, today inaugurated the upgraded swimming pool facilities at the Lake Sports Complex, Sector 6, and the All-Weather Swimming Pool at Sports Complex, Sector 39, Chandigarh.

Present on the occasion were Sh. Sagar Preet Hooda, IPS, Director General of Police, UT Chandigarh; Ms. Prerna Puri, IAS, Secretary Sports; Sh. Saurabh Arora, Director Sports; Sh. Rajiv Tewari, Director Hospitality; Sh. C B Ojha, Chief Engineer and other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration.

The upgradation work of the swimming pools at the Lake Sports Complex was undertaken by the Engineering Department, UT Chandigarh, in coordination with the Sports Department. The project was completed within a period of four months during the winter closure (December to March), and the facility is now ready for public use.

Lake Sports Complex Swimming Pools (Sector 6)
* Main Pool: Capacity of approximately 8.00 lakh litres with variable depth ranging from 4’-6” to 14’-0”
* Kiddy Pool: Capacity of approximately 1.00 lakh litres with an average depth of 3’-6”

The facility is equipped with a modern filtration plant to ensure high water quality, along with upgraded changing rooms, shower areas, and washrooms. Being an open-to-sky facility, the pools will remain operational during the summer season from April to October.

A toughened glass partition has been installed along the lake-facing side to prevent unauthorized access while maintaining the scenic view. Additionally, a waterfall feature has been incorporated in the kiddy pool to enhance aesthetics and improve water circulation.

All-Weather Swimming Pool, Sector 39
The All-Weather Swimming Pool at Sports Complex, Sector 39, has been upgraded with the installation, testing, and commissioning of a modern heating system, enabling year-round usage of the facility.
This swimming pool, which was initially made operational on 05 November 2019, has now been fully upgraded with the completion of the heating system on 06.02.2026.

The upgraded facilities are expected to significantly enhance sports infrastructure in the city and provide a safe, modern, and user-friendly environment for swimmers, thereby promoting sports and healthy lifestyles among residents.
