Chandigarh, April 17:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today reinforced its commitment towards social reform by organizing a pledge-taking programme under the nationwide campaign “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat,” aimed at eliminating child marriage.
Senior officials, including MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS; Joint Commissioners, Chief Engineer along with other senior officers and staff, collectively took an oath to stand firmly against the practice of child marriage.
Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner described child marriage as a grave social evil and a punishable offence that severely impacts the education, health, and overall development of children, particularly girls. He emphasized that eradicating this practice requires strong community participation and vigilant societal support.
During the programme, participants pledged to actively prevent child marriage, ensure such incidents do not occur within their families or surroundings, promptly report any violations to authorities, and promote the education and well-being of children.
Reaffirming its proactive role, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh committed to intensifying awareness campaigns and strengthening community engagement to build a Child Marriage-Free Bharat.
