Chandigarh : March 19, 2026-The 67th Annual Convocation of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh, was held with great academic splendour and dignity, celebrating the achievements of its 1500 graduating students.
The convocation ceremony was graced by the eminent historian and educationist, Padma Shri Professor Dr. Raghuvendra Tanwar, as the Chief Guest. An internationally acclaimed scholar and one of India’s most distinguished contemporary historians, Professor Tanwar is presently serving as the Chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research. Professor Tanwar has held several eminent academic and administrative positions, including Chairman of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research, National Fellow at the University Grants Commission, and President of the Indian History Congress. He is also associated with premier national institutions such as the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society, and the Indian Council of Social Science Research.
In his Convocation Address, Professor Tanwar inspired the graduating students to pursue knowledge with integrity, uphold national values, and contribute meaningfully to society.
The ceremony was also graced by distinguished alumna Professor Dr. Reicha Tanwar, a noted academic in Gender Studies and former Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, Kurukshetra University, who graduated from the college in 1976.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal, Professor Dr. Anita Kaushal, highlighted the remarkable achievements of the institution. Established in 1956 and affiliated with Panjab University, the college continues to be a premier centre of higher education for women.
The academic year witnessed exceptional accomplishments. Diksha Makkar secured All India Rank 1 with 100 percentile in UGC-NET (Public Administration), while more than 19 students qualified the UGC-NET across disciplines. The college also secured multiple gold medals at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with over 50 students featuring in the Panjab University merit list.
The NCC cadets brought laurels to the institution, with Cadet Mehak Thakur being adjudged All India Best Cadet at the Republic Day Camp 2026 and felicitated by the Prime Minister. In sports, Vinnati won gold at the Asian Roller Skating Championship, while other students excelled at international and national platforms.
The college continued its cultural dominance by winning the Overall Trophy at the Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival for the eleventh consecutive year. It was also recognised as a ‘Sustainable Campus’ for its environmental initiatives.
The Convocation concluded with a renewed commitment to academic excellence, character building, and nation-building.
