Chandigarh, 27.02.2026 – The Energy Management Cell (EMC) / State Designated Agency (SDA), Engineering Department, U.T. Chandigarh, organized a workshop on Energy Conservation and Fuel Efficiency in the Transport Sector at Hotel Shivalik-View, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

Inaugurating the workshop, Er. C.B. Ojha, Chief Engineer, U.T. Chandigarh, emphasized the urgent need to reduce dependence on fossil fuels through innovative technologies and collective action. He highlighted Chandigarh’s vision of becoming a carbon-neutral and net-zero city by 2047 and underlined the proactive role of the Energy Management Cell in driving energy conservation and sustainable development initiatives.

The technical session delivered by Dr. B. Adinarayana, Assistant Professor at Punjab Engineering College, covered intelligent transport systems, urban traffic management, and the environmental impact of the transport sector etc. He elaborated on practical strategies to enhance fuel efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and integrate smart mobility solutions into urban planning for sustainable city development Other sessions focused on eco-friendly driving practices, electric mobility, and fuel-efficient as well as star-rated tyres.

Officials from the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST) shared details of the Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy of the Chandigarh Administration, highlighting various incentives and support mechanisms available to promote electric mobility.

Officials from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) were also present and informed the participants about ethanol blending in fuels, the role of advanced lubricants in improving engine performance, and measures to enhance fuel efficiency.

Sh. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Head of Energy Management Cell, Chandigarh, also informed the participants about various initiatives undertaken to promote energy efficiency and conservation across different sectors in the Union Territory.

The workshop was attended by around 80 participants, including officials from the Transport Department, U.T. Chandigarh, engineers, academicians, taxi operators, and representatives from various establishments.

The event concluded with a strong call to action, focusing on advancing sustainable transport, renewable energy adoption, and energy efficiency as key pathways toward decarbonization, while reaffirming the leadership role of the Chandigarh Administration in driving the transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable future.
