Chandigarh, February 14:- Smt. Kirron Kher, Former Member of Parliament, UT Chandigarh, today inaugurated the newly developed Sports Ground at Milk Colony, Dhanas, constructed under MPLAD funds, in the presence of Sh. Saurabh Joshi, Mayor Chandigarh; Sh. Kuljeet Singh Sandhu, former Senior Deputy Mayor & Area Councillor; Sh. Satinder Singh Siddhu, councillor and other prominent residents of the area.
The sports ground has been developed at a cost of Rs. 42.50 lakhs with modern amenities including paved footpaths, landscaping, electrical works and dedicated play areas for various sports activities, transforming the space into a vibrant hub for youth and residents.
Addressing the gathering, Smt. Kirron Kher emphasized the immense health benefits of sports and physical activities, stating that playgrounds are the foundation of a healthy society. She highlighted that regular participation in sports not only strengthens the body but also builds discipline, teamwork and confidence among children and youth. She remarked that creating accessible sports infrastructure is essential to channel the energy of young minds in a positive direction.
In her further address, she encouraged parents and community members to motivate children to actively use the facility and adopt healthy lifestyles. She expressed satisfaction that the MPLAD funds have been utilized for a project that directly impacts the well-being of residents and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives that promote fitness, community bonding and youth development.
City Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi stated that the sports ground has been developed at a cost of Rs. 42.50 lakhs with comprehensive infrastructure including walking footpaths, landscaping, proper lighting arrangements and designated play areas. He said that the Municipal Corporation is continuously working towards strengthening sports infrastructure across the city to ensure that every locality has access to quality recreational spaces.
He further added that such facilities play a vital role in fostering community spirit and providing a safe environment for constructive engagement of youth. The Mayor assured that the Municipal Corporation will continue to focus on enhancing civic amenities and creating inclusive spaces that contribute to the overall development of Chandigarh.
Former Senior Deputy Mayor and Area Councillor Sh. Kuljeet Singh Sandhu expressed heartfelt gratitude to Smt. Kirron Kher for sanctioning MPLAD funds for the project, stating that the long-pending demand of the residents of Milk Colony, Dhanas has now been fulfilled. He said that the development of the sports ground reflects the collective efforts of elected representatives and officials working together for public welfare.
In his concluding remarks, he emphasized that the ground will serve as a center for positive activities, encouraging youth to stay engaged in sports and away from negative influences. He thanked the Municipal Corporation officials for timely execution of the work and appealed to residents to take collective responsibility for maintaining the facility for the benefit of future generations.
