MAHENDERGARH, 04.02.26-On the occasion of World Wetlands Day, the Department of Environmental Studies, Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh, organised a Workshop on Promotion of Science for students of Government Senior Secondary Schools from the adopted villages of the University. The workshop was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the FIST scheme as part of Scientific Social Responsibilities (SSR).
The programme aimed to promote scientific thinking and environmental awareness among school students, with special emphasis on wetland conservation and the harmful impacts of plastic pollution. Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar Vice-Chancellor in his message highlighted the importance of developing scientific temper, curiosity, and responsibility towards society and the environment.
The workshop began with a welcome address by Prof. Mona Sharma, Coordinator, DST-FIST, who briefed participants about the objectives and informed that students from schools of Jant, Pali, Malra, Bawana, Basai, Sehleng, Khudana, Akoda, and PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kari participated.
Prof. Neelam Sangwan, Dean (Research) and Prof. Pawan Kumar Maurya motivated students to engage in science learning for sustainable development. Resource Person Prof. Vinod K. Garg from Central University of Punjab, Bhatinda conducted demonstrations and hands-on experiments on microplastic measurement, light intensity analysis, AQI measurement, and other simple scientific techniques.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Anita Singh, Head, Department of Environmental Studies, acknowledging the collective efforts of faculty members and enthusiastic participation of students. The workshop was organised with the collective efforts of the faculty members Dr. Anoop Yadav, Dr. Vikram Singh, Dr. Bhupendra P. Singh, Dr. Dushyant Kumar, Dr. Sunil Kumar and students of the department.
