Major Storm Water Drainage, Water Supply and Infrastructure Works Approved by F&CC


Chandigarh, December 26:- The Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh held its meeting here today under the chairpersonship of Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, Mayor, Chandigarh.

The meeting was attended by Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Sh. Pardeep Kumar, Special Commissioner, committee members Sh. Saurabh Joshi, Sh. Gurpreet Singh, Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh and Smt. Suman Devi, along with senior officers of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

During the meeting, the committee discussed various agenda items in detail and accorded approval to key civic works focusing on storm water drainage, water supply augmentation and improvement of public infrastructure across different sectors of the city. The approved works include:

· Providing and laying of 900mm, 600mm and 450mm SWD pipeline to tap excess rainwater from the residential area of Panjab University, Sector 14, to the existing SWD system near the roundabout of Sectors 14/15/24/25, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 26.98 lakh.

· Providing and laying of parallel SWD line in place of the existing silted SWD line on V-5 Road for smooth disposal of rainwater near Goodwill Enclave, Sector 49, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 30.56 lakh.

· Providing and laying of 100mm, 150mm and 200mm diameter DI water supply lines in Milk Colony, Dhanas, near the park, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 28.01 lakh.

· Special repair of the existing Community Centre, Mauli Jagran Complex, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 48.74 lakh.

· Providing new SWD system for smooth disposal of rainwater area near and around House Nos. 14–33, 43, 61–67, 73–82 and 873 in Government Quarters, Sector 43, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 48.15 lakh.

· Upgradation of flooring on the front side and backside of market/showrooms from SCO No. 21 to 85, Sector 16-D, Chandigarh at an estimated cost of Rs. 27.86 lakh.

The committee emphasized that these works will significantly improve drainage, water supply and public facilities and directed the concerned departments to ensure timely completion with prescribed quality standards.

MC Chandigarh Steps Up Anti-Encroachment Drive; 2,781 Challans Issued

Street Vendors Given Time Till January 1st to Clear Vending Sites

Chandigarh, December 26:- The Enforcement Branch of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has intensified its drive against temporary encroachments across various parts of the city to ensure smooth pedestrian movement, unobstructed streets, and strict compliance with civic regulations.

During the period from 01.12.2025 to 25.12.2025, enforcement field staff carried out regular and special drives, during which a total of 2,781 challans were issued to violators found encroaching upon public land in contravention of the applicable Municipal laws and regulations.

The Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, has categorically directed that all illegal vendors operating in the city shall be removed and that no leniency shall be shown towards anyone found violating civic norms. All registered street vendors have been instructed to remove their articles, equipment, and tarpaulins from their designated vending sites immediately after the permitted vending hours.

However, on the request of representatives of registered street vendors, the Municipal Corporation has been given seven days time (upto 01.01.2026) to registered street vendors for removing their articles, tarpaulins from their register vending sites after 10.00 p.m. It has been made clear that after 01.01.2026, any articles, equipment, or tarpaulins found lying at vending sites beyond 10:00 PM shall be removed by the Enforcement Branch without any further notice.

Further, all registered street vendors who are not vending from their allotted sites have been directed to operate strictly from their designated vending locations with immediate effect.

In addition to routine enforcement activities, special enforcement drives are also being conducted to ensure the effective removal of temporary encroachments and to maintain cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of public spaces throughout the city.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh appeals to vendors and the general public to extend full cooperation in this initiative aimed at improving civic amenities and ensuring adherence to established municipal regulations.
