Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla Announces Major Relief for Vending License Defaulters

Chandigarh, November 26:- In a significant move aimed at supporting the city’s street vendors, City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla has announced a one-time relief for vendors who have lost their vending licenses due to non-payment of dues to the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

Addressing appeals of 212 affected vendors, the Mayor declared a final opportunity for defaulters to regularize their dues within a three-month period. Vendors who clear their outstanding payments within this window will have their licenses reinstated. However, failure to comply will result in permanent cancellation of the licenses.

“She said believe in inclusive growth, and this step ensures that small businesses get a fair chance to recover and thrive.”

The Mayor also emphasized that this is the final chance for defaulting vendors to settle their dues.

She said that the Municipal Corporation will soon issue detailed guidelines for the payment process to ensure transparency and efficiency.

This initiative reflects the city's continued commitment to supporting livelihoods while maintaining accountability and civic order.

Finance & Contract Committee approves Widening of V-6 Road at Sector 2

Chandigarh, November 26:- The 358th meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the
Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held today under the chairpersonship of Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla, in the presence of Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Sh. Saurabh Joshi and Sh. Jasmanpreet Singh along with the concerned officers of the Municipal Corporation.

During the meeting, the Committee approved the agenda item regarding the Widening of V-6 Road in front of House No. 46 to 50, Sector-2, Chandigarh, at an estimated cost of Rs. 29.26 lakh.

The proposal has been initiated to enhance the carriageway width and ensure smoother and safer vehicular movement for area residents.

The major scope of work under this project includes:
* Earthwork in excavation and carriage
* Providing and laying granular sub-base
* Providing and laying wet mix macadam
* Providing and laying 50 mm bituminous macadam (BM) and 30 mm bituminous concrete (BC)

The Committee observed that widening this stretch of the V-6 Road will significantly improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and benefit daily commuters and residents of Sector-2.

The agenda item was thoroughly discussed and unanimously passed by the Finance & Contract Committee.

MC Chandigarh intensifies anti-encroachment drive in sector 19; 75 challans issued

Chandigarh, November 26:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out a rigorous anti-encroachment drive in Sector 19 Sadar Bazaar and Sector 19 Palika Bazaar to clear public spaces and ensure smooth pedestrian movement. During the drive, enforcement teams removed multiple temporary encroachments, including illegal extensions and roadside obstructions.

A total of 75 challans were issued to shopkeepers, vendors, and individuals found violating municipal norms. The operation was conducted as part of the MC’s ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness, order, and hassle-free public access in busy market areas.

A strict warning has been issued to all violators and unauthorized vendors, directing them not to occupy public land or obstruct pathways. The Municipal Corporation has clearly stated that any repetition of such violations will invite stringent legal action under the relevant provisions of law.
