Chandigarh, November 26:- Aimed at educating the city’s youth on the importance of responsible waste management, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has embarked on an impactful initiative of conducting exposure visis of school students.
As part of this effort, MC Chandigarh has launched a series of educational exposure visits for school and college students to strengthen awareness on solid waste management, segregation at source, and the core principles of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0.
On Wednesday, around 50 students from KBDAV School toured the Pink MRF Centre and the Solid Waste Management Plant, where they gained firsthand understanding of waste segregation, recycling processes, and modern waste treatment techniques. The interactive learning experience offered students an opportunity to witness how different categories of waste are collected, sorted, and processed, creating a deeper appreciation of the city’s systematic approach to waste management.
Speaking about the initiative, MC Commissioner, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, highlighted that such exposure plays a crucial role in fostering awareness and integrating sustainable practices into the educational framework. “A closer look at the processing plants not only enhances understanding but also instills lasting behavioural change among students. The aim is to nurture responsible citizens and strengthen the culture of cleanliness from a young age,” he said.
He further added that Chandigarh, widely known as the City Beautiful, has remained at the forefront of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan through a blend of strong municipal enforcement, active citizen participation, and community-led initiatives. The city has steadily built a culture where cleanliness is embraced as a shared civic duty rather than a mere obligation.
He further said that the MC Chandigarh will continue engaging schools, colleges, and youth groups to ensure the message of cleanliness, sustainability, and responsibility spreads across future generations, shaping a cleaner and greener Chandigarh.
