Chandigarh, October 25:Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Health, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, today conducted a visit to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, to take stock of the functioning of various departments and to ensure that citizens are receiving prompt and quality healthcare services.
Sh. Brar undertook a detailed round of the hospital, beginning from the Emergency and Trauma sections and extending to the Outpatient Department (OPD) and the Advanced Pediatric Centre. He interacted extensively with doctors, medical staff, and patients to gain firsthand insight into the hospital’s day-to-day operations.
During the visit, Sh. Brar listened to the concerns raised by several patients and their attendants regarding waiting times and service delivery. He assured them that their grievances would be addressed on priority. Taking note of the heavy patient rush at the Emergency Department, Sh. Brar directed hospital authorities to increase the number of registration counters to ensure faster processing and smoother patient management.
The Secretary Health also shared several important suggestions for enhancing healthcare delivery, including improved inter-departmental coordination, better emergency response systems, and regular upkeep of medical infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards of cleanliness and ensuring compassionate behaviour by hospital staff while dealing with patients.
Director Health Services, Dr. Suman Singh, along with senior officials of the Health Department, accompanied Sh. Brar during the visit. The team took note of his observations and assured that necessary measures would be implemented promptly.
