Chandigarh, August 29:-In a significant step toward fostering behavioral change and environmental responsibility among school children, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today launched the ‘Swachhata Ki Karyashala’ campaign at PM Shree GMSSS, Dhanas. The initiative was launched by Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, with the objective of turning young students into champions of cleanliness and sustainability.

Addressing the students, Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, introduced the innovative formula “10x10=100” — where 10 people dedicating 10 minutes each to clean their surroundings can together ensure a 100-meter area remains litter-free. He emphasized that such small, consistent actions can bring transformative change in community cleanliness.

He stressed the importance of source segregation, recommending the division of waste into four categories to streamline recycling and disposal. The Commissioner also encouraged students and families to adopt home composting practices using kitchen and garden waste, helping reduce landfill burden and promote circular waste management.

The ‘Swachhata Ki Karyashala’ will be rolled out across all schools in the Union Territory by MCC teams, focusing on key themes including source segregation, home composting, reduction of single-use plastic, and promotion of the RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principle.

The event saw vibrant student performances, including a nukkad natak on “Swachhata Ke Chaar Rang”, creatively highlighting the importance of cleanliness. MCC teams also conducted live demonstrations on waste segregation and composting techniques, leaving students inspired and informed.

This initiative marks a collaborative stride towards a cleaner and greener Chandigarh, with the youth at its heart.
