CHANDIGARH, 29.08.25-In a spirited move to spread awareness on the noble cause of eye donation, the Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management (CIHM), Sector 42, organized an awareness lecture as part of the ongoing 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight.
The session, led by Dr. Arpita and social worker Mr. Amritpal, sensitized students and faculty on the urgent need for corneal donations to restore vision in countless individuals grappling with corneal blindness. The speakers emphasized that while medical science has advanced significantly, corneal transplantation remains the only cure for many forms of irreversible blindness.
Nearly 250 students and faculty members enthusiastically participated in the program. They were provided with pledge forms and information pamphlets, equipping them with practical knowledge on how to become a donor. Many attendees came forward to sign the pledge, symbolizing their resolve to contribute to the gift of sight.
The interactive session also clarified myths and misconceptions surrounding eye donation and highlighted how a single pledge can transform lives by giving vision to two individuals.
Commending the initiative of CHM students, Prof. S. S. Pandav, Head, Advanced Eye Centre, PGIMER , said, "The greatest service one can render is to give another person the gift of sight. Eye donation is a simple act, yet it holds the power to change futures. I commend the young students of CIHM for stepping forward as ambassadors of this noble cause. Their commitment reflects the spirit we need to eliminate avoidable blindness from our country.”
The event concluded with a collective resolve to carry forward the message of eye donation, reinforcing PGIMER’s mission to create an informed and compassionate society that embraces the legacy of giving sight.
