Chandigarh, June 23, 2025:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a sharp response to Chandigarh Congress President H.S. Lucky’s allegations over the hike in leasehold-to-freehold conversion charges, calling them politically motivated and misleading.

Responding to the statement, BJP Chandigarh media in-charge Sanjeev Rana said that Congress cannot distance itself from policy decisions when the elected Member of Parliament from Chandigarh is from their own party — Manish Tewari.

"Mr. Lucky seems to forget that Manish Tewari is the MP from Chandigarh. If he sits in key administrative meetings where such decisions are discussed and made, then how can the Congress claim ignorance or helplessness?" asked Rana.

The BJP also raised concerns over the developments since Congress won the parliamentary seat in Chandigarh, alleging that several residential colonies have come under the influence of the Punjab government, creating unrest among residents and raising questions about territorial integrity and governance.

"What was the fault of the people who trusted Congress with their vote? Why are so many residents being forced to protest on the streets? And most importantly, has Manish Tewari ever raised these concerns in Delhi or taken a stand for the people of Chandigarh?" Rana questioned.

The BJP demanded that Congress clarify its MP’s role in ongoing policy matters. If the party has objections to the revised conversion charges, it should first explain what stand its own MP took in the meetings with the administration.

Rana added:"It is unfortunate that the Congress continues to indulge in empty rhetoric while BJP is working with seriousness and responsibility in the public interest. Congress must come clean — either they accept accountability for their MP's role, or admit that they are here only for political gain, not for the welfare of Chandigarh."

The BJP reiterated its commitment to transparent and citizen-centric governance and urged Congress to stop misleading the public for political mileage.
