MC Chandigarh to Launch fortnightly deep cleaning drive ahead of monsoon starting from June 18
Chandigarh, June 17:- In a proactive step to ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic environment ahead of the monsoon season, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh will launch a fortnightly deep cleaning drive across all city wards and zones starting June 18, 2025.
Sharing details about the initiative, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, stated that the comprehensive sanitation campaign is aimed at preventing waterlogging, curbing the spread of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, and improving overall public health and sanitation conditions in the city.
He said that under this initiative, dedicated teams will carry out intensive cleaning of roads, drains, public spaces, and garbage-vulnerable points. Waste will be collected in a systematic manner, segregated at the source, and sent to the appropriate processing facilities to ensure scientific and sustainable waste management.
“This drive reflects MCC’s strong commitment to environmental health and public well-being. By involving all departments and encouraging citizen participation, the MCC aims to set a benchmark in monsoon preparedness and urban cleanliness,” said Sh. Amit Kumar.
He urged residents to cooperate by maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings, ensuring proper waste segregation, and avoiding littering in public places.
The Commissioner further said that the fortnightly deep cleaning drive will continue throughout the monsoon period and will be monitored closely to ensure effectiveness and impact. MCC has also set up a helpline for citizens to report sanitation-related issues during the campaign.

MC Chandigarh forms 18 flood control teams and 7 control rooms for monsoon preparedness
Chandigarh, June 17:- In anticipation of the upcoming monsoon season, the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has constituted 18 special flood control teams and operationalized 7 flood/water-logging control rooms across the city.
These arrangements will be in force from June 20 to September 30, 2025, to ensure swift response and redressal of water-logging and rain-related emergencies.
Each control room will function 24x7 with designated teams working in three shifts. Citizens can lodge complaints regarding water-logging through the dedicated control room phone numbers.

Each control room has dedicated field teams including Field Managers (FM), Multi-Task Workers (MTW), and Public Health officials. The Public Health Officer will serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) in each control room, coordinating across departments.
Special Measures and Department Roles:
* 18 emergency response teams comprising officials from Public Health, B&R, Horticulture, MOH, Electrical, and Fire Department have been stationed in key sectors of the city.
* 5 water tankers with drivers will be available round-the-clock.
* Fire department personnel trained in disaster management will be stationed strategically for emergency handling.
* Barricading at collapse sites will be handled by the B&R wing.
* No casual or earned leave will be granted to staff during the monsoon period.
* All departments have been instructed to ensure immediate emergency response and provide necessary manpower from their current strength.
* Two enforcement vehicles will be provided at each control room for mobility.
The Municipal Corporation urges citizens to cooperate during monsoons and report water-logging issues promptly using the dedicated numbers for swift redressal.

MCC removes unauthorized fencing in sector 27A to reclaim and maintain public space
Chandigarh, June 17:- In a continued effort to maintain public spaces and ensure unhindered access to common areas for all citizens, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today removed unauthorized fencing and encroachment near House No. 193 in Sector 27A.
Acting on the directions of Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, the engineering team of MCC carried out the operation using JCB machines to dismantle the illegal fencing along the roadside. The encroachment was obstructing public access and posed a hindrance to maintenance and movement, especially during emergency or monsoon-related operations.
The removal is part of MCC’s broader initiative to protect and preserve public spaces across the city. The Municipal Corporation is committed to keeping roads, parks, sidewalks, and other public areas free of unauthorized occupation, ensuring a safe and accessible environment for all residents.
MCC has reiterated that encroachments of any kind will not be tolerated, and regular monitoring will continue across all sectors. Residents are urged to cooperate and refrain from unauthorized constructions or fencing that obstruct public areas.
