Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla announces ₹50 Lakh development funds for each of 22 Villages

Chandigarh, May 28:- In a major push towards rural infrastructure enhancement, the Mayor of Chandigarh Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla has announced the release of ₹50 lakh for each of the 22 villages transferred to the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, under the dedicated Village Development Fund.

Calling the councillors of the respective wards having these 22 villages, the Mayor urged them to raise and prioritize the development demands specific to their villages. “The dedicated funds are available with the MCC, and we are committed to ensuring visible and meaningful improvements in civic infrastructure,” she said.

The Mayor emphasized that the focus areas for development include the upgradation of roads, installation of street lights, improvement of sewerage and storm water drainage systems, enhancement of water supply, landscaping and beautification improvements, and better sanitation facilities. These interventions aim to bring these villages at par with urban standards.

She further added that necessary directions have already been issued to the concerned engineering departments to start preparing detailed budget estimates for this dedicated fund. This will follow the submission of priority development demands by the councillors.

"The villages need an immediate boost in civic amenities, and with the funds now at our disposal, the Municipal Corporation is ready to begin the process without delay,” the Mayor noted.

This initiative marks a significant step in bridging the rural-urban divide and integrating the development of transferred villages into the city’s broader infrastructure roadmap.

MC Chandigarh Conducts Special Enforcement Drive at Sector 26 Mandi

Chandigarh, May 28:– In a joint operation with the Marketing Committee and Mandi Board, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today carried out a special enforcement drive at Sector 26 Mandi. The drive was conducted following the directions of MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, to ensure better regulation and maintenance of cleanliness and order within the mandi premises.

During the drive, the MCC enforcement team issued 18 challans to violators for various offenses including unauthorized dumping of waste, encroachments, and non-compliance with Govt rules. The team acted swiftly and firmly to address these violations, aiming to improve the overall hygiene and functioning of the mandi.

The enforcement team also issued strong warnings to regular offenders, cautioning them of strict legal action if violations persist. The MCC reiterated its commitment to maintaining cleanliness and civic discipline in all public and commercial spaces of the city.

Such drives will continue regularly to ensure the enforcement of municipal regulations and to promote responsible behavior among traders and vendors.
