Chandigarh, 17 August: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women celebrated the spirit of India’s 80th Independence Day through a series of patriotic and community-oriented activities under the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan.
As part of the celebrations, the UBA Cell of the college organised an outreach activity titled ‘Azadi ki Udaan’ at Government Primary School, Sector 41, Buterla. The activity was designed to acquaint young learners with the significance of Independence Day and the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters. The programme commenced with an introduction to Independence Day, highlighting the struggles and sacrifices of the freedom fighters and emphasising the values of national unity, freedom and democracy. This was followed by quiz on freedom fighters, in which schoolchildren identified national heroes from their photographs. Giving an innovative expression to the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, the schoolchildren created their own Tricolour flags, showcasing their creativity, imagination and patriotic spirit.
The NCC Army Wing organised Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan under the aegis of 1 Chandigarh Girls Battalion NCC as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
The activities included Har Ghar Tiranga Quiz, followed by the distribution and carrying of the National Flag at a spirited Har Ghar Tiranga Rally. NCC cadets also registered themselves on the My Bharat portal and enthusiastically participated in various activities, including the Har Ghar Tiranga Pledge and Selfie with Tiranga. A Poster Making Competition on the theme Har Ghar Tiranga was also organised, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students who expressed their patriotic spirit through creative artwork. Chingri secured the first position, while Monika Sharma and Vaishali jointly secured the second position. Nikita won the third position, and consolation prizes were awarded to Vanshika Joshi, Prachi and Harnoor.
Officiating Principal Ms Neena Sharma appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students, NCC cadets and the young learners, emphasising that such initiatives play an important role in nurturing responsible citizens. She observed that meaningful engagement with the history and symbols of the nation enables the younger generation to appreciate the sacrifices that secured India’s freedom and to uphold the democratic and constitutional values that strengthen the nation.
