DELHI,18.10.19-Highlighting the Urbane village of Shahpur Jat, its ever-evolving fashion scene, and its unique position in Delhi’s heritage, Delhi Government in association with Delhi Tourism will be hosting the second edition of Shahpur Jat Autumn Festival to celebrate the city’s hub of fashion and striking history. One of the oldest villages of the city, Shahpur Jat is home to potters, painters, designers, workshops, boutiques, NGOs, historical tombs, cafes and many more.
A location with multiple identities, it beckons people who live and work for humanitarian cause along with artists and craftsmen. Abutting the ruins of Alauddin Khilji’s medieval Siri Fort, Shahpur it has transformed into a popular high-fashion retail area that melds the traditional with the modern.
Celebrating this unique combination, the two-day festival will feature heritage walks, fashion shows, folk dances, painting, calligraphy, storytelling, recycling workshop and live band performances. A walk through monuments from the 14th century to models walking the ramp showcasing the latest fashion trends, the event will introduce people to the urban villages of Delhi. The Diwali Bazaar will host potters, silversmiths and traditional weavers from Shahpur Jat. The main venues of this festival are MCD Park near Fashion Street and Tohfewala Gumbad Masjid.
The first day 19th Oct will comprise of Folk dances from Haryana & Punjab along with LOL with Hasya Kavi Sunil Jogi & Stand Up Comedian Sanjay Rajora.
The second and last day of the festival 20th Oct will include Fashion Shows exhibiting the works of Shahpur Jat designers and a Musical Concert by Bollywood’s Singer Monali Thakur.
Shahpur Jat Autumn Festival will also conduct a few Walks namely ‘Other Side of Shopping’ by India City Walks, ‘Retail Therapy’ by Stylist Rishi Raj and ‘Heritage Walk’ by INTACH. The festival will also comprise of Nagada Players and Raagini performers like Amit Mallika and Deepa Chaudhary on 19th and 20th Oct respectively.
Delhi Government, recently also hosted three days long Mehrauli Monsoon Festival to highlight the cultural & ecological significance of Mehrauli as a tourist destination. Similarly, this festival aims to bring forward more tourism offerings in the city.
The government plans to make this Shahpur Jat Autumn Festival an annual feature that would become a part of Delhi’s Annual Tourism Calendar.
