Chandigarh, May 20: To spread the joy of reading, especially among the marginalized kids in slums and rural areas and also to increase their interaction with urban children’s in city Schools, Yuvsatta-an NGO & State Legal Services Authority-SLSA, Chandigarh have started a book donation drive with participation of tricity Schools.

Giving information about the initiative Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority-SLSA shared that on coming Saturday, May 25, they plan to organize ‘Kitaba Da Langar-Books Donations’, at ten major slum settlements and villages of the city. Where the participating School’s students and teachers will distribute free books among the children’s of the targeted area. And at two prominent places of village Khudda Ali Sher and Bapudham Colony, alongside the books donations, they also plan to organize the POSCO-Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Ordinance and Juvenile Justice Act Awareness Camps.

Sharing his concerns, Pramod Sharma, coordinator of Yuvsatta added that we must develop a culture of reading as it takes a child a long way. Books need to be made a part of the environment a child grows up in. And to motivate more and more young kids to read new books and utilize the upcoming summer vacations, they have thought of having this ‘Kitaba Da Langar-Books Donation Drive’ as part of their new initiative of a ‘Read Chandigarh Campaign’.

Those interested can donate books for the endeavour, between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Kitabghar-the Children’s Centre of Yuvsatta, at Bapudham Colony, opposite Sheetla Mata Mandir, Sector 26, Chandigarh.
