Chandigarh, 12 August: The NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised NSS Orientation Day for the newly inducted volunteers for the session 2026–27, with the aim of familiarising them with the objectives, functioning, responsibilities and diverse initiatives of the National Service Scheme.
The programme commenced with an address by Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma, who warmly welcomed the newly inducted volunteers and encouraged them to participate actively in NSS activities. She emphasised the importance of community service, social responsibility and holistic development, highlighting that volunteering provides students with valuable opportunities to cultivate leadership, empathy, teamwork and a strong sense of civic responsibility. An informative presentation introduced the volunteers to the National Service Scheme, its objectives and its role in fostering community engagement and social welfare. The volunteers were also apprised of the wide range of initiatives undertaken by the college’s NSS Units, including community outreach programmes, awareness campaigns, special camps, skill-development activities and other service-oriented projects. They were encouraged to view NSS as a platform for meaningful participation, experiential learning and personal growth.
NSS Programme Officers Dr. Sunita Kumari and Dr. Neha Sharma further addressed the volunteers and briefed them about the functioning of the NSS Units, expectations from volunteers, participation requirements and the importance of discipline and active involvement throughout the session. They underscored the significance of teamwork, punctuality, commitment and responsible conduct while representing the institution and the NSS. The programme concluded with an encouraging call to the volunteers to embrace the NSS motto- “Not Me But You”, and participate enthusiastically in the various initiatives planned for the session.
