MAHENDERGARH,05.06.26-The Department of Environmental Studies, Central University of Haryana (CUH), in collaboration with Paryavaran Sanrakshan Shodh Peeth (PSSP), CUH, and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), celebrated World Environment Day 2026 on Friday under the theme “Climate Action.”

The celebration commenced with a plantation drive under the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at Ashima Chatterji Girls Hostel and Kalpana Chawla Girls Hostel of the university. Prof. Pawan K. Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Suneel Kumar, Registrar, CUH, led the plantation activity and encouraged students to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts.

Welcoming the participants, Prof. Anita Singh, Head, Department of Environmental Studies, emphasized the importance of tree plantation in combating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability. Prof. Mona Sharma, Chair Professor, Paryavaran Sanrakshan Shodh Peeth (PSSP), also participated in the plantation drive along with faculty members, staff, and students.
The formal programme featured a felicitation ceremony honoring environmental experts from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board and industry. Prof. Anita Singh felicitated Shri Vijay Chaudhary, Regional Officer, HSPCB, while Prof. Mona Sharma and Dr. Vikram Singh felicitated Mr. Dipesh Kalher, Assistant Environmental Engineer, HSPCB, and Mr. Munish Kumar, Founder Director, EHS Guru Sustainable Solutions Pvt. Ltd., respectively.
A series of expert lectures highlighted the significance of environmental governance, pollution control, sustainable development, and industrial sustainability. Mr. Dipesh Kalher shared insights on environmental management and regulatory frameworks, while Shri Vijay Chaudhary discussed environmental governance and the role of youth in conservation. Mr. Munish Kumar elaborated on sustainability practices, ESG compliance, and emerging career opportunities in the environmental sector.
The programme witnessed active participation from faculty members of the Department of Environmental Studies, including Dr. Anoop Yadav, Dr. Vikram Singh, Dr. Bhupendra Singh, Dr. Smita, and Dr Dshyant kumar along with officials and staff members of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board, Narnaul. A large number of students, research scholars, and university staff members also attended the event. The celebration ended with the National Anthem, reaffirming the collective commitment towards environmental protection, sustainability, and climate action.
