CHANDIGARH, 29.05.26-The Department of Fashion Designing at GGDSD College, Chandigarh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with fashion designer and entrepreneur Simple Kaur today with the objective of providing students with industry-oriented learning through a simulation-based internship proposal.

The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice by offering students hands-on experience in simulated industry environments. The initiative focuses on strengthening design thinking, problem-solving, technical skills, and career readiness for emerging roles in the fashion and creative industry.

This initiative is also a significant step towards fulfilling the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which strongly emphasises experiential learning, skill development, multidisciplinary education, industry-academia collaboration, and enhanced employability for students.

The MoU was signed by Dr Ajay Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College, in the presence of faculty members and institutional representatives. Dr Sumita Sikka, Head of Department, Fashion Designing, was also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, college authorities highlighted that the partnership would create valuable opportunities for students through simulation-based internships, skill-based training sessions, practical industry exposure, and collaborative academic initiatives.

Simple Kaur brings over two decades of industry experience to this collaboration:
- Fashion entrepreneur successfully running a clothing brand for 23 years
- Featured in IGI Global (2023) international publication for contributions to sustainable fashion and innovation
- Visiting faculty and fashion educator, having trained 2,000+ students
- Conducted workshops and learning sessions in fashion, textiles, styling, and entrepreneurship

Through this collaboration, students of the college will gain access to specialised modules in:
- Simulation-based internship training
- Design development and problem-solving
- Technical skill enhancement aligned with industry requirements
- Mentored feedback and performance evaluation
- Career preparedness for roles in fashion design, production, and entrepreneurship

The initiative is expected to significantly enhance students’ creative confidence, adaptability, and professional competencies, while opening new pathways for experiential learning within the department.

This MoU marks an important step towards empowering students with practical design skills, industry exposure, and career-oriented learning in the field of fashion, while aligning higher education with the evolving needs of the creative economy.
