Mayor Undertakes First Inspection of City Gaushalas, Reviews Infrastructure & Cattle Management

Chandigarh, January 30:-Marking his first field visit after assuming office, City Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi today conducted an extensive inspection of Gaushala, Raipur Kalan; Gaushala, Industrial Area Phase-I; and the Cattle Pond, Industrial Area Phase-I, to review infrastructure facilities and overall cattle management under the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

The Mayor was accompanied by Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, MC Chandigarh, along with Councillors Sh. Harjeet Singh, Smt. Bimla Dubey, Smt. Gurbax Rawat, and concerned MC officials.

During the visit, the Mayor directed that milk generated from MC-operated gaushalas be supplied to city-based orphanages starting tomorrow, underlining the Corporation’s commitment to social responsibility and inclusive welfare.

He also instructed the engineering wing to explore a detailed plan to convert the existing animal incinerator plant into a biogas-based incinerator, which would be more economical and environmentally sustainable.

The Mayor conducted a thorough on-site assessment of the structural condition of gaushalas, cattle sheds, water supply systems, fodder availability, sanitation standards, and overall infrastructure. Detailed deliberations were held on infrastructure upgradation, strengthening daily cattle management practices, and providing better shelter and health facilities for animals.

Emphasizing the importance of animal welfare, the Mayor stressed the need to further streamline cattle management systems while ensuring proper health, hygiene, and nutrition.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor said that Gaushalas are not merely shelters for cattle; they represent our collective responsibility towards animal welfare. This being my first inspection after taking charge, my priority is to ensure that infrastructure, hygiene, and management standards are upgraded in a time-bound manner. We are committed to adopting sustainable and humane solutions for better cattle care.

MC Commissioner stated that the Municipal Corporation is fully committed to strengthening gaushala infrastructure and adopting improved management practices. Based on inspection, necessary technical and administrative measures will be initiated to enhance facilities, improve maintenance, and ensure long-term welfare of cattle, he added.

The Mayor directed concerned officials to prepare an action-oriented improvement plan focusing on structural repairs, cleanliness, efficient fodder management, and strengthened monitoring mechanisms. He also emphasized the need for regular inspections and coordinated efforts to ensure uniform standards across all gaushalas under the Municipal Corporation.

MC Chandigarh organizes financial literacy awareness session for sanitation workers

Chandigarh, January 30:-With the objective of ensuring saturation of sanitation workers with various beneficiary and welfare schemes, the organized a comprehensive Financial Literacy Awareness Session for sanitation workers (Swachhata Karmis) today Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38, Chandigarh.

The session was aimed at empowering sanitation workers by enhancing their understanding of financial planning, savings, banking services, digital transactions, and security measures. The initiative reflects the Municipal Corporation’s continued commitment towards the welfare, financial inclusion, and socio-economic upliftment of its dedicated sanitation workforce.

Financial Literacy Counselors from and addressed the participants and provided valuable guidance on topics such as opening and operating bank accounts, savings schemes, safe banking practices, prevention of digital frauds, and the use of digital payment platforms including UPI.

The interactive session enabled workers to clarify their doubts and gain practical knowledge to manage their finances more effectively.

SBM Brand Ambassador Kajal Manglamukhi and Officials of the Municipal Corporation were also present during the programme and encouraged sanitation workers to actively utilize government welfare schemes and adopt secure digital banking practices in their daily lives. Sanitation kits were also distributed among the sanitation workers.

The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh reiterated its resolve to continue organizing such awareness programmes to ensure holistic development, financial security.
