Chandigarh, January 24:-Continuing its relentless crackdown on the use and circulation of banned plastic items, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today confiscated 1,600 kilograms of prohibited plastic carry bags from Industrial Area Phase-II and issued a challan against the violator.

The enforcement action was carried out by a dedicated team of Sanitary Inspectors of MCC, who, during the raid, identified and apprehended a supplier actively involved in the distribution of banned plastic carry bags. The prohibited material was seized on the spot strictly in accordance with prescribed norms.

In a significant step towards environmentally responsible enforcement, all seized plastic carry bags have been sent to the MCC processing plant for scientific processing and safe disposal, ensuring that the confiscated material does not re-enter the supply chain or cause further environmental harm.

Speaking on the occasion, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, reaffirmed the Corporation’s unwavering commitment to making Chandigarh a plastic-free city. He stated that MCC will continue to adopt strict and deterrent measures against both suppliers and users of banned plastic items.

The Commissioner further warned that habitual violators will face stringent legal action, including the registration of FIRs, in addition to penalties and seizures, to ensure strict compliance with the plastic ban.

Appealing to citizens and traders, the Commissioner urged them to avoid the use, sale, and storage of banned plastic items and to switch to eco-friendly alternatives in the larger interest of environmental protection, public health, and sustainable urban living.
