SHIMLA-13 October, 2025-Education Minister Rohit Thakur today presided over a review meeting with senior officers of the Education Department to assess the progress of various government schemes, recruitment process and infrastructural restoration works across the state.
He directed that all sanctioned posts be immediately sent to the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog and Public Service Commission so that the recruitment process could be initiated without delay and vacancies in schools filled up at the earliest. Reviewing the recruitment of TGTs, JBTs, Punjabi and Urdu, other vernacular teachers and coaches and DPE's in sports hostels pending with the Commission, he instructed officers to pursue these cases regularly to ensure timely appointments. He said that the availability of teaching staff at all levels was crucial to maintain the quality of education and ensuring that students do not suffer due to vacancies.
The Minister also reviewed the engagement of PGTs in 9th and 10th Classes and directed Deputy Directors to identify and circulate success stories and innovative teaching practices across districts. He further stated that promoted PGTs who fail to join their new postings within the stipulated time should have their promotions withdrawn and the next eligible candidates given the opportunity to serve.
Discussing the proposal for opening new primary schools, Rohit Thakur instructed that all codal formalities be completed early so that the proposal could be put up before the Cabinet. He also directed officers to complete formalities for the Kendriya Vidyalayas at Kotkhai and Paonta Sahib to enable them to start functioning soon. While reviewing the promotion and placement of principals, he stressed the need to complete the process swiftly and transparently for effective academic supervision.
Rohit Thakur expressed concern over the damage caused to educational institutions by recent natural calamities and directed that repair works be expedited now that the weather is favorable. He informed that over 1320 institutions were affected, causing losses of about Rs. 122 crore. He instructed that Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) funds be used judiciously, prioritizing schools sustaining over 75 percent damage and that utilization reports be submitted within five days, failing which unspent funds would be diverted to schools in urgent need.
Reviewing the school inspection process, the Minister directed the Deputy Directors (Secondary, Elementary and Quality Education) to enhance inspection targets to further improve educational standards and accountability.
He also reviewed the implementation of the Dr. Y.S. Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojna, directing officials to ensure that all eligible students receive education loans at one percent interest for pursuing higher education.
A detailed presentation highlighting the achievements, reforms and initiatives of the Education Department from January 2023 till date was also given during the meeting.
Additional Secretary Education Shubh Karan Singh, Project Director Samagra Shiksha Rajesh Sharma, Director of School Education Ashish Kohli and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
