Chandigarh, 21 August: As part of the ongoing Induction Week, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised a session on ‘Traffic Awareness and Road Safety’ on day 3, and a training workshop on ‘Disaster Preparedness and Response’ on day 4.
The session on Traffic Awareness annd Road Safety, held under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), was conducted by the Chandigarh Traffic Police officials. It emphasised the significance of safety gear, especially checking helmet expiration dates, and highlighted critical concerns such as underage and juvenile driving. Students were also made aware of road signs, slip roads, blind spots, and the newly introduced Good Samaritans policy of Central Government, which encourages public assistance to accident victims without fear of legal consequences. The workshop on Disaster Preparedness and Response was organised by the NSS Units and Disaster Management Committee, under the aegis of IQAC.
Mr. Arpit Dubey, NDMA-certified disaster management expert, explained the attributes of an effective first responder- knowledge, bravery, swift action, and resourcefulness. Through live demonstrations, he trained students in earthquake safety measures, victim rescue techniques, injury stabilisation, and proper CPR administration. The session also featured an interactive Q&A where students clarified their doubts on first aid and preventive measures.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated both the endeavours, remarking that they were highly relevant and empowering for the young learners. She added that such initiatives not only enhance individual confidence but also foster a sense of collective responsibility towards society.
