Sunil Jakhar writes to Governor, seeks recommendation for early enforcement of Model Code of Conduct in Punjab
- BJP will also approach the Election Commission of India to seek early enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
- Describes Sisodia and Kejriwal’s politics of confrontation as dangerous for Punjab; says the party will pursue legal action to seek their externment from the state
- Says the government has itself admitted that Punjab’s law-and-order situation has deteriorated to the point where even an anti-drug awareness marathon cannot be held
- Asks how elections can be held if, according to the government, a marathon cannot take place
- Alleges AAP is deliberately pushing Punjab into unrest to create grounds for postponing elections
Chandigarh, October 29:Bharatiya Janata Party state Former president Sunil Jakhar has written to the Governor of Punjab, urging him to recommend to the Election Commission that the Model Code of Conduct be enforced in the state at the earliest. Citing Punjab’s deteriorating law-and-order situation, which he said the Bhagwant Mann government had itself now acknowledged, Jakhar said this was necessary to ensure that the forthcoming Assembly elections were peaceful and fair and that people could exercise their right to vote without fear. He disclosed this at a press conference here.
The former Punjab BJP president also said the party would soon approach the Election Commission of India to demand early enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. He alleged that if the AAP government remained in power any longer, it would worsen the situation to such an extent that holding peaceful and impartial elections in an atmosphere free from fear would become impossible.
Speaking to reporters, Jakhar said the party was also exploring legal options to seek the externment of Manish Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal from Punjab on the basis of Sisodia’s inflammatory statements that, he alleged, were disturbing the state’s atmosphere. This would prevent them from visiting Punjab and spreading further poison, he said. He alleged that AAP was pushing Punjab into the flames of unrest as part of a deliberate conspiracy.
Jakhar said an anti-drug marathon had been held annually in Abohar for several years, with thousands of young people participating in the campaign against drugs. This year, however, the government had cancelled permission for the marathon in writing, stating that the atmosphere was unfavourable and that the event could not be held because of the poor law-and-order situation.
Jakhar said law and order in Punjab had indeed deteriorated to an extremely alarming level and that no one in the state was safe. While drugs were claiming young lives, he alleged, the terror unleashed by the drug mafia had grown to such an extent that sincere voices speaking out against drugs were being silenced with bullets.
He said people were being killed openly across Punjab—from the holy city of Sri Amritsar Sahib to Tarn Taran, Khemkaran, Gurdaspur, Sri Hargobindpur, Mansa, Abohar, Sangrur and Ludhiana—in virtually every district and town. Criticising the government’s role, he alleged that police were even forcibly taking away the bodies of children who had died due to drugs. Anyone who protested against drugs or expressed their anguish before the government, he said, was either subjected to police repression or driven to suicide.
Jakhar attributed these developments to what he described as a deliberate strategy of the AAP government. He said the party’s own senior leader, Manish Sisodia, had revealed this approach by stating that they would use every means to win elections—persuasion, inducements, punishment, division, confrontation, lies or truth.
He alleged that, under this strategy, the government had appointed pliant officers, while criminals and gangsters were either being inducted into the party or provided protection. He further alleged that the Chief Minister’s Office had itself become a hub of corruption and that Punjab was suffering the consequences of this policy.
Jakhar said public confidence in the system was declining because officers appointed to maintain law and order were allegedly functioning as collection agents for the government. He also alleged that drug and arms networks were operating from prisons, while smugglers and murderers were being released on parole and helped to flee abroad.
He further alleged that transactions involving crores of rupees were coming to light in connection with attempts to suppress cases of sexual assault against women. He claimed that the Chief Minister’s own family had also been named in one such matter and that, despite High Court directions, the government was failing to have the case investigated.
The former Punjab BJP president said that, in such circumstances, holding free, fair and peaceful elections in a border state like Punjab would become impossible. He alleged that the AAP government was continuously worsening the situation and that, by the time elections would become due, the Bhagwant Mann government would have created such an atmosphere of fear that citizens would be unable to vote freely.
Allowing this government more time, he said, would amount to permitting violations of the fundamental and human rights of the people of Punjab. He alleged that the government was acting deliberately because it lacked the courage to approach people for votes and wanted to use the deteriorating law-and-order situation as a pretext to postpone elections.

AAP’s ‘Sikhya Kranti’ only focusing on paint, whitewash, inauguration ceremonies and advertisements: Shwait Malik
Termination of 253 Master Cadre teachers, no salaries to teachers in government-aided schools for 10 months, and continuous protests shows actual face of ‘Sikhya Kranti’: Malik
Chandigarh, October 29:Senior BJP leader Shwait Malik on Thursday strongly criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, for merely focusing on fresh coat of paint, whitewash, inauguration ceremonies and advertisements on the name of ‘Punjab Sikhya Kranti’ initiative, and ignoring the actual needs of teachers and students.
Malik said the termination of 253 Master Cadre teachers, who had been serving in government schools for nearly three years, was deeply concerning. On the other hand, the plight of teachers in government-aided schools, who are working without salaries for nearly 10 months, exposes the government’s failure to address the genuine concerns of educators. “The AAP’s decisions are anti-teachers and anti-people”, said Malik.
“Teachers are the backbone of the education system, but the AAP government has created an atmosphere of uncertainty and insecurity among them. Those who have been teaching children in government schools for years are now fighting to protect their livelihoods. The government, on the other hand, prioritized expenditure of nearly ₹30 lakh on granite plaques bearing the names of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains and local MLAs at 599 government schools, under the Punjab Sikhya Kranti initiative”, Malik said.
Malik further added, “AAP government is only doing a fresh coat of paint, whitewash, inauguration ceremonies and advertisement on the name of Sikhya Kranti. Is this the education revolution Punjab was promised? The AAP government is spending taxpayers’ money on plaques displaying the names of political leaders while teachers are protesting, promotions remain contentious and educators face uncertainty over their jobs.”
“The people of Punjab deserve answers, not publicity campaigns. The AAP government must stop treating education as a tool for political branding and start treating teachers and students as its foremost responsibility. The BJP stands firmly with Punjab’s teachers and will continue to raise its voice for a transparent, accountable and genuinely student-centric education system,” Malik said.

BJP Will Ensure 63% DA for Punjab Government Employees if Voted to Power: Kewal Singh Dhillon
Welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Decision to Increase DA for Central Government Employees by 3%
Chandigarh, October 29, 2026:Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Thursday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to increase Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees by 3%. He said that if the BJP comes to power in Punjab, state government employees would also receive DA at the rate of 63%, in line with the Centre. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of denying state employees their rightful dues.
Dhillon said Punjab’s DA rate had yet to reach 60%. He pointed out that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed the state government to grant DA to its employees on a par with central government employees, but the order had not been complied with. On October 27, the High Court imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on the AAP government, which also had to tender an apology before the court.
He further stated that the state government had filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court, but it remained on the defect list and had not yet been taken up for hearing. Claiming that nearly eight lakh state employees were protesting to demand their dues, Dhillon accused the government of remaining adamant despite their concerns. He said a BJP government would ensure that pending DA arrears were also paid to state employees.
Centre’s Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme to Boost Punjab’s Industry
Dhillon said Punjab stood to benefit significantly from the Centre’s Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme, which, he said, could help revive Jalandhar’s struggling sports goods industry. He noted that Jalandhar is one of India’s leading sports goods manufacturing hubs, accounting for approximately 60% of the country’s sports goods production. However, he alleged that 40% of the industry’s units had shut down due to the AAP government’s neglect. He said the central scheme could help revitalise the industry, restore Jalandhar’s standing as a global sports goods manufacturing hub and create employment opportunities for thousands of young people.
Container Manufacturing Scheme to Benefit Punjab’s Exporters
Speaking about the Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme, Dhillon said it would directly benefit exporters in Punjab. He explained that hosiery and bicycles manufactured in Ludhiana, along with sports goods produced in Jalandhar, could be exported in cost-effective, domestically manufactured containers, helping reduce logistics costs and improve the competitiveness of Punjab’s exporters.
Viksit Gram Swaraj Yojana to Strengthen Rural Punjab
Commenting on the Prime Minister’s Viksit Gram Swaraj Yojana, Dhillon said the initiative would strengthen more than 13,000 panchayats across Punjab. He added that training and greater authority for sarpanches and panches would help accelerate development and improve governance in villages across the state.

Chaudhary Shyam Lal Gujjar Joins BJP with Hundreds of Supporters
Former Akali Dal BC Wing District President Joins BJP in the Presence of Kewal Singh Dhillon
Dhillon Slams AAP Government Over Drugs, Gangsterism and Deteriorating Law and Order
Mohali/Chandigarh, October 29:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a significant boost as Chaudhary Shyam Lal Gujjar, district president of the Shiromani Akali Dal’s Backward Classes (BC) Wing in Mohali, joined the party along with hundreds of supporters. The induction was facilitated by BJP Punjab Vice President Ranjit Singh Gill.
At a programme held in Guri village in the Kharar Assembly constituency, Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon welcomed Gujjar and his supporters into the party, assuring them of due respect and recognition within the organisation. BJP Punjab Vice President Ranjit Singh Gill, District President Sanjeev Vashisht, Haryana government chairman Chaudhary Om Prakash, and several other party leaders and workers were present on the occasion.
Dhillon said Chaudhary Shyam Lal Gujjar and his supporters had made a positive decision in the larger interest of Punjab. He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the BJP was committed to bringing every section of society together under the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas.” He added that people from diverse communities were joining the party because of its commitment to inclusive development.
Welcoming the growing support from the Gujjar community, Dhillon said the community was known for its hard work and contribution to society and had played an important role in Punjab’s progress. He added that Gujjar’s induction, along with that of his supporters, would further strengthen the BJP’s organisational presence in the state.
Dhillon Raises Concerns Over Punjab’s Law and Order Situation
The Punjab BJP president described the situation in the state as deeply concerning, citing drug abuse, gangsterism, extortion, murders, deteriorating law and order, rising debt and financial distress as major challenges facing Punjab. He alleged that those raising their voices against drugs were being silenced and that people exposing the government’s failures were facing harassment. Dhillon said incidents of shootings and murders continued to raise serious concerns across Punjab. Referring to the cases involving Parminder Singh Jhota of Mansa and Daljit Jeetu of Bhamme Kalan village, he alleged that the affected families were facing further harassment instead of receiving justice.
He said protecting Punjab’s younger generation had become an urgent priority. If the state’s children could not live in safety, he argued, other amenities and facilities would have little meaning. He stressed that eliminating drugs must be a top priority.
BJP Reaffirms Commitment to a Drug-Free Punjab
Dhillon said the BJP had pledged to rid Punjab of drugs through its Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra. He added that the party was committed to working alongside the Centre’s initiatives towards eliminating drugs by December 31, 2029. He said Punjab needed a strong and honest government capable of addressing the state’s pressing challenges. Citing the BJP’s record on governance and development, Dhillon asserted that the party could offer solutions to Punjab’s problems. He also urged party workers to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level and ensure that the BJP’s policies and programmes reached every section of society.

AAP Government Cannot Escape Accountability by Blaming Others After Nearly Five Years in Power, Says Ashwani Sharma
Why Is the AAP Government Hiding the Drug Survey That Cost ₹250 Crore? Asks Ashwani Sharma
Chandigarh, October 29:Former Punjab BJP State President Ashwani Sharma on Thursday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to fulfil its promise of eradicating drugs within three months of coming to power, saying it could not escape accountability by shifting the blame onto others after nearly five years in office.
In a statement issued from the party office in Chandigarh, Sharma questioned why the Bhagwant Mann-led government is withholding the findings of a drug survey reportedly conducted at a cost of ₹250 crore. He said the people of Punjab deserved to know what the survey had revealed about the state's drug problem and why the government was reluctant to make the report public. He also accused Finance Minister Harpal Cheema of trying to take credit for the government's performance by citing figures published in newspaper reports rather than releasing the findings of their own survey.
Sharma said the AAP government must provide a clear account of its actions against drug trafficking. He demanded that it disclose how many major drug traffickers had been convicted by courts during its nearly five-year tenure and how many people struggling with drug addiction had received effective rehabilitation.
He further questioned the delay in implementing the PIT-NDPS Act and called on the state government to explain the reasons behind it. Instead of targeting the BJP, Sharma said, the AAP government should focus on answering questions about its own record and take responsibility for its failures in tackling Punjab's drug crisis.
