GMSH-16 Introduces Bone Marrow Aspiration Service under Integrated Public Health Laboratory
Chandigarh, October 15, 2026: Government Multi Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, has introduced bone marrow aspiration services at its Integrated Public Health Laboratory (IPHL), strengthening diagnostic facilities for blood-related disorders. The District Hospital Laboratory was upgraded to an IPHL under PM-ABHIM and has been operational since June 2025.
Bone marrow aspiration is an important diagnostic procedure used to examine bone marrow cells and assist in diagnosing conditions such as anaemia, pancytopenia, leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and other haematological disorders. The availability of this service at GMSH-16 is expected to facilitate timely investigations, reduce the need for patients to visit higher medical centres for this procedure and improve patient convenience.
The service has been introduced under the guidance of the hospital administration and the Department of Pathology, with an emphasis on quality diagnostic services, patient safety and appropriate clinical evaluation.
The initiative marks an important step in strengthening public healthcare infrastructure and reflects the hospital’s continued commitment to providing accessible, affordable and quality healthcare services to the public.

CPCC Launches ‘Project Punarjanma’ to Promote Responsible E-Waste Management
Chandigarh, October 15, 2026: The Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC), in partnership with Rotary International District 3080, launched Project Punarjanma—“The Reincarnation of Technology”—on October 14, 2026, at Paryavaran Bhawan, Sector 19-B, Chandigarh, to mark International E-Waste Day.
The initiative brings together regulatory authorities, civil society, educational institutions and environmental stakeholders to promote responsible electronic waste management, strengthen authorised recycling practices and support a sustainable circular economy. Extensive awareness campaigns will encourage residents to channel discarded electrical and electronic equipment through authorised recyclers. A dedicated e-waste collection van will operate across Chandigarh to facilitate collection. Guided by the motto “Recycle Today for a Greener Tomorrow,” the project aims to develop a sustainable e-waste management model that can be replicated across the region.
Addressing the gathering, the Member Secretary, CPCC, highlighted the environmental and health hazards associated with improper disposal of e-waste through informal and unorganised scrap channels. He emphasised the need to raise public awareness about safe handling and disposal and urged participants to channel e-waste exclusively through authorised agencies.
The District Governor, Rotary District 3080, reiterated Rotary’s commitment to environmental protection and called upon citizens to make responsible e-waste recycling a collective movement.
The event concluded with the flagging off of a dedicated e-waste collection vehicle of M/s Shivalik Solid Waste Management Ltd., marking the commencement of collection operations under the project.
Residents are advised to avoid disposing of or selling e-waste to unorganised scrap dealers and to use authorised collection channels. For pickup requests, they may call or message 98829 71255 or 82880 79366.
