Chandigarh, 15 October: The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised a community outreach activity titled “Beyond Textbooks: Discovering Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences” at Government Model High School, Sector 41, Badheri, Chandigarh. The initiative aimed to familiarise Class X students with the concepts of entrepreneurship, start-ups and innovation, highlighting their practical applications in the field of science.
Dr. Sandeep Kaur from the Department of Food Science, MCM DAV College for Women, served as the resource person and conducted an engaging, interactive session that encouraged students to explore the entrepreneurial potential of scientific knowledge. She highlighted diverse career opportunities in life sciences and emphasised how innovative thinking can transform scientific understanding into practical, cost-effective and socially relevant solutions. A total of 79 students participated enthusiastically in the session, sharing their ideas and discussing innovative approaches to addressing everyday challenges. Demonstrating creativity, curiosity and problem-solving skills, the students proposed several problem statements they wished to explore, including waste management, developing affordable refrigerators and other cost-effective devices, free textbook distribution platforms, recycled clothing, and strategies to combat food wastage and hunger. The activity provided a valuable platform for young minds to connect scientific learning with real-world challenges, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset and encouraging them to view innovation as a means of creating meaningful social impact.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the initiative and remarked that nurturing innovation and entrepreneurial thinking at the school level is essential for empowering young minds to become creative problem-solvers. She emphasised that such outreach activities help students recognise the practical relevance of scientific knowledge and inspire them to develop sustainable solutions for societal challenges.
