GRIID Principal Honoured with ‘Vaishvik Shikshak Rattan Award’

Sh. Anil Kumar, Principal, Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (GRIID), Sector 31, Chandigarh, was conferred with the ‘Vaishvik Shikshak Rattan Award’ at a ceremony held at the Indian Society of International Law, Supreme Court Complex, New Delhi.

The award recognised his contribution to special education and the rehabilitation, inclusion and empowerment of persons with intellectual disabilities.

The ceremony was organised by the Antarrashtriya Samrasta Manch and attended by dignitaries, academicians and representatives associated with participating countries. As many as 51 teachers from different States were honoured with the ‘Vaishvik Shikshak Rattan Award’ and ‘Shikshak Gaurav Award’.

Expressing gratitude to the organisers, Mr. Anil Kumar said the honour would further motivate him to work for the education and empowerment of persons with intellectual disabilities. He dedicated the recognition to the entire GRIID team, the Chandigarh Administration and all stakeholders working for the welfare of persons with disabilities.

Community-Based Events Promote Nutrition Awareness and Community Participation during Rashtriya POSHAN Maah 2026

Chandigarh, September 21, 2026: As part of Rashtriya POSHAN Maah 2026, Community Based Events (CBEs) were organized across various Anganwadi Centres to promote awareness regarding nutrition, maternal and child health, and the importance of community participation in improving nutritional outcomes.

In Vikas Nagar Circle, an awareness lecture on the nutritional value and health benefits of Fresh Hot Cooked Meals (HCM) provided at Anganwadi Centres was organized.

Beneficiaries participated enthusiastically, interacted with the ANM and were sensitized about the importance of consuming nutritious, freshly prepared meals and incorporating healthy dietary practices in their daily lives.

At Burail Circle, a special PMMVY awareness and registration drive along with an awareness lecture was organized for beneficiaries. The beneficiaries were sensitized about the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), eligibility and the importance of timely registration. Beneficiaries actively participated in the session and interacted with the resource person.

At Indira Colony under Manimajra Town Circle, an event on “Community Participation and Poshan Awareness” was organized with Nutrition as the central theme. Dr. Tejas from PGIMER delivered an informative lecture on nutrition and conducted an open-house interaction with beneficiaries, addressing their queries and creating awareness about the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet.

The event also focused on promoting the Hot Cooked Meal (HCM) and Take-Home Ration (THR) provided through Anganwadi Centres. The Anganwadi Worker explained the HCM menu to parents and highlighted the nutritional benefits of the meals. Nutrition-rich food items were also displayed at the Anganwadi Centre to encourage beneficiaries to adopt healthy food choices and understand the importance of adequate nutrition for children and families.

Additional activities included antenatal check-ups, registration of newly identified pregnant women, and awareness sessions on nutrition, supplements and anaemia prevention. Home visits were also conducted to counsel families on anaemia prevention, immunization and child nutrition, including parents of SAM and underweight children, along with demonstrations on ORS preparation.

The activities emphasized the importance of community participation, adequate nutrition, maternal health and regular access to nutrition services through Anganwadi Centres, in line with the objectives of Rashtriya POSHAN Maah 2026.
