Chandigarh, September 1:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organised a “Swachhta Ki Karyashala” at Government Model Senior Secondary School, DMC, Sector 38 West, Chandigarh, to sensitise students about cleanliness, source segregation, responsible waste management and their role in building a cleaner, greener and sustainable Chandiga

The workshop was led by Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, Sh. Amit Kumar IAS. Dr. Inderdeep Kaur along with senior officials of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarhwere also present in the Karyshala.

Addressing the students, the Commissioner emphasised that cleanliness is a collective responsibility and highlighted the importance of developing responsible waste management practices from an early age. He encouraged students to become Swachhta Ambassadors and spread the message of cleanliness, waste segregation and responsible disposal in their homes and communities.

The Commissioner also interacted with the students, listened to their views and experiences, and encouraged them to actively participate in cleanliness initiatives. He appreciated the enthusiasm and participation of the students and urged them to make cleanliness an integral part of their daily lives.

During the workshop, MC officials explained the importance of source segregation and the four-bin waste segregation system, covering wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste and other categories. The students were sensitised about proper segregation through fun and interactive games, helping them identify different types of waste and understand which bin each category of waste should go into.Interactive activities and practical demonstrations were also conducted to provide students with hands-on understanding of proper waste handling, segregation and disposal. The engaging sessions encouraged students to learn about cleanliness and waste management in an enjoyable and practical manner.

The students actively participated in the games, discussions and activities and shared their experiences and ideas related to cleanliness and waste management. The workshop aimed to create greater awareness among students about their role in maintaining cleanliness and promoting sustainable waste management practices.

The MC Chandigarh urged students and citizens to adopt source segregation, dispose of waste responsibly, minimise the use of single-use plastic and actively contribute towards making Chandigarh a cleaner, greener and more sustainable city.
