Chandigarh, 22 August: Women Development Cell and Foreign Students’ Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised a workshop on “Women as Changemakers: Empowering Communities through Social Work”. The workshop aimed to sensitise students towards social responsibility and inspire them to become active agents of positive and sustainable social change.
Dr Gaurav Gaur, Associate Professor, Centre of Social Work, Panjab University, was the resource person. In an engaging and interactive session, Dr Gaur highlighted the significance of social work, community participation and individual responsibility in addressing social challenges and creating meaningful change. He shared inspiring examples of women-led initiatives and community interventions that have contributed to social transformation. The session particularly emphasised the role of self-help groups, collective participation and women-led initiatives in empowering individuals, fostering self-reliance and strengthening communities. Students were encouraged to recognise their own potential as changemakers and to contribute meaningfully to society through empathy, awareness and responsible action.
Officiating Principal Ms Neena Sharma appreciated the initiative and said that empowering women to become active participants in community development is essential for building an inclusive and progressive society. She emphasised that educational institutions have a vital role in nurturing socially responsible and empathetic young citizens who can translate awareness into meaningful action.
