Chandigarh, August 21:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today intensified its zone-wise enforcement drive against vendors operating from unauthorised locations despite having been allotted designated vending sites.

During the drive, 112 vendors were removed from their old vending locations after being found operating outside their allotted vending sites. The action was carried out by the Enforcement teams as part of the Corporation’s ongoing efforts to streamline street vending and ensure effective implementation of the designated vending system.

The vendors who have already been allotted vending sites through the prescribed draw-of-lots process are required to operate strictly from their designated locations. Continuing vending from old or unauthorised sites will not be permitted.

The drive was undertaken in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Civil Appeal No. 4400 of 2026, Malkit Singh and Another versus State of U.T. Chandigarh & Others, and in accordance with the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 and Chandigarh Street Vending Bye-Laws, 2018.

MC Commissioner directed the field teams to maintain strict vigil in the areas covered under the drive and prevent removed vendors from reoccupying unauthorised locations.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reiterated its commitment to ensuring a disciplined, regulated and orderly street-vending system, while keeping public spaces free from unauthorised vending and encroachments
