Chandigarh, August 8:- Mayor of Chandigarh, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, today laid foundation stone for the work for replacement of the existing Cast Iron (CI) water supply pipeline with a new Ductile Iron (DI) pipeline in Cheap House, Sector 24-C. The project has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹63.78 lakh.

The project envisages shifting the existing water supply pipeline from the back courtyards of houses to the front side, thereby improving accessibility, maintenance and reliability of the water supply network.

Under the project, approximately 1,033 metres of 100-mm (4-inch) DI K-7 pipeline and 449 metres of 150-mm (6-inch) DI K-7 pipeline will be laid. The work will also include installation of six DI sluice valves, CI/DI specials and necessary connections with the existing water supply network.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that strengthening basic civic infrastructure and ensuring better essential services for residents remain key priorities of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh. He said that relocation of the pipeline to the front side of houses would provide greater convenience to residents and facilitate easier inspection, repairs and maintenance in future.

The Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation is undertaking development works across different parts of the city with a focused approach towards upgrading civic infrastructure and improving public amenities.

He directed the concerned officers to ensure strict adherence to prescribed quality standards and timely completion of the project, while ensuring minimum inconvenience to residents during the execution of the work.
