Chandigarh, August 7:- Emphasising transparency, accountability and adherence to due process in the functioning of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has directed Special Commissioner Sh. Harpreet Singh Sudan, IAS to ascertain the actual facts relating to the agenda concerning the proposed replacement of the existing 1200 mm I/D PSC Pipeline from Water Works Kajauli to Water Works, Sector-39, estimated at approximately ₹227.70 crore.

The directions were issued following observations raised regarding the presentation of the agenda. Although the agenda was approved by the General House, representations were subsequently received from the Mayor, political parties as well as a large number of councillors, including those who were present during the meeting and those who were not present at the time the agenda was taken up and approved.

Taking note of the representations and interacting with the councillors, the Commissioner remarked that placing the agenda before next General House meeting for deliberation and approval would further strengthen transparency and collective decision-making. With a view to ensuring transparency and fairness, he directed the Special Commissioner to examine all relevant records, ascertain the factual position from the concerned officials and submit a comprehensive fact-finding report at the earliest.

The Commissioner reiterated that the fact-finding exercise is aimed at ensuring transparency, procedural compliance and factual clarity. He emphasized that proposals involving substantial public expenditure should be processed with complete disclosure of relevant information to facilitate informed decision-making.
