Chandigarh, 3 August: Amidst the sacred chants of Vedic mantras and an atmosphere imbued with devotion and optimism, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women formally welcomed its new batch of students by organising a havan ceremony to inaugurate ‘Shubhagman’, the college’s Induction Week.
The spiritual gathering marked the beginning of the new academic session, invoking divine blessings for wisdom, success, and holistic growth of the students. Sh. R. C. Jeevan, Senior Governing Body Member, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the newcomers, Sh. R C Jeevan familiarised them with the rich legacy of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, in whose revered memory the institution was established in 1968. He observed that every student enters college with aspirations and dreams, and that beginning this important journey with prayer and positivity strengthens one’s resolve to achieve them. Describing education as the most powerful instrument of transformation, Sh. Jeevan emphasised that the committed and accomplished faculty of MCM nurtures students into confident, competent, and socially responsible individuals. Encouraging the students to embrace the opportunities before them with sincerity and determination, he urged them to uphold truth and integrity, dream fearlessly, cultivate humility through learning, and dedicate themselves to the service of society. He reminded them that true success lies not merely in academic achievement but in becoming responsible citizens who positively influence the world around them.
The havan ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff, who offered prayers into the holy fire and sought divine blessings for a productive, enriching, and value-oriented academic session. The spiritual ambience reflected the institution’s commitment to harmoniously blending academic excellence with India’s rich cultural and ethical traditions.
Welcoming the freshers, Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma said that as they embark on a new chapter of learning and self-discovery, ‘Shubhagman’ symbolises not merely the commencement of an academic session but the beginning of a transformative journey rooted in knowledge, values, and purposeful action. She underscored the pivotal role of education in bringing about meaningful social transformation, and encouraged the students to make the most of their years at MCM by pursuing knowledge with curiosity, nurturing compassion, and developing into individuals who lead with character, competence, and a deep sense of social responsibility.
