Chandigarh, 10 July: Reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement, the NSS Units, Eco Club- Parivesh, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell, and Horticulture and Landscaping Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with Department of Forest and Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration, inaugurated Van Mahotsav 2026 with extensive plantation drives on the college campus and at Village Badheri, Sector 41-D, Chandigarh, adopted under the NSS and UBA Cell.

The plantation drives were organised under the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0-#Plant4Mother” campaign, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: Life on Land. The initiative encouraged students, faculty, staff, and community members to plant trees in honour of their mothers while reinforcing the importance of environmental conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable living. Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma, faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff, along with Mr. Hardeep Singh Buterla, Councillor, and residents of Village Badheri, planted nearly 100 saplings of ornamental, flowering, shade-giving, and fruit-bearing species, including Rose, Kaner, Plumeria, Hibiscus, Gulmohar, Raat Ki Rani, Chandni, Guava, and Pomegranate across the college campus and the adopted village. To strengthen community participation, saplings were also distributed among village residents, encouraging them to actively contribute towards afforestation and environmental stewardship. The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community, who collectively pledged to nurture the saplings and work towards preserving the environment for future generations. Mr. Hardeep Singh Buterla commended the college for consistently promoting environmental awareness and actively involving the community in meaningful sustainability initiatives.

Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the dedicated efforts of the organising committees and volunteers for fostering ecological consciousness and inspiring collective action towards building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
