Chandigarh, 17 March: Department of Physics at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of MCM Vigyan Manch, organised a Department of Science and Technology (DST)-sponsored fest- EUREKA. The fest provided a vibrant platform for young minds to explore scientific ideas and showcase their creativity through a series of engaging competitions.
Prof. Lokesh Kumar, Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh, graced the fest as the Chief Guest. He delivered an insightful and interactive lecture on ‘Experimental Particle Physics’. His talk traversed fundamental concepts to advanced applications, highlighting significant contributions of particle physics to society, including hadron therapy, medical imaging, the invention of the World Wide Web, and touchscreen technology. Dr. Deepak Garg, DAV College, Chandigarh, served as a judge for the Innovative Physics Model competition.
The event featured a diverse range of activities, including Quiz, PowerPoint Presentation, Science Talk, Innovative Physics Model, and Sci-Fi Jagriti. Around 100 students participated with great enthusiasm, reflecting remarkable scientific aptitude, innovation, and originality.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the initiative and remarked that such academic engagements play a crucial role in nurturing scientific temper, critical thinking, and innovation among students. She added that EUREKA is a commendable effort towards fostering experiential learning and encouraging young women to excel in the field of science.
