MC Commissioner Amit Kumar reviews civic infrastructure and development works in ward no. 3 & 5
Chandigarh, February 4:- Reaffirming the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh’s commitment to citizen welfare and quality urban living, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, today conducted an on-ground review of civic infrastructure and ongoing development works in ward No. 3 and 5 of Chandigarh. He was accompanied by Area Councillors Sh. Dilip Sharma, Smt. Darshna and senior officials from concerned MC departments.
During the visit, the Commissioner inspected key public facilities, including neighbourhood parks, public toilets and surrounding civic infrastructure. The condition, cleanliness and maintenance of these amenities were reviewed on site, with a clear focus on improving daily convenience and quality of life for local residents.
Taking a firm citizen-centric approach, the Commissioner issued directions to concerned departments to carry out immediate repair and maintenance works wherever deficiencies were observed. He stressed that all identified works must be completed within stipulated timelines and that regular upkeep of public amenities should be treated as a priority to ensure safe, clean and well-maintained public spaces.
Area Councillors highlighted local issues and development needs during the inspection. He urged officials to identify priority areas requiring urgent attention so that necessary repair and improvement works could be executed efficiently and in a planned manner.
The Commissioner further directed all departments to prepare a list of pending development works in Manimajra and ensure sustained maintenance of completed assets. He emphasized that continuous monitoring and proactive action are essential to deliver reliable civic services and strengthen public trust.

Launched to streamline parking operations and eliminate the inconvenience of daily cash payments, MC One Pass offers commuters seamless monthly parking at highly affordable rates — ₹250 for two-wheelers and ₹500 for four-wheelers — across designated Municipal Corporation parking sites in the city.
While speaking about the initiative, the MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS said here today that the rapid growth from launch to over 2,000 subscribers reflects the success of technology-driven initiatives focused on ease of living, accountability and convenience. The digital pass ensures cashless transactions, reduced on-ground disputes, quicker access at parking sites, and enhanced transparency in parking management.
He said that the overwhelming response from citizens has further encouraged the Municipal Corporation to intensify outreach efforts and progressively expand the coverage of MC One Pass, enabling more commuters to benefit from a smarter and hassle-free parking experience.

MC Commissioner takes strict action over gross negligence in garden maintenance; SDE (Horticulture) placed under suspension
Chandigarh, February 4:-In a stern move to enforce accountability and ensure high standards of civic upkeep, the Commissioner Municipal Corporation Chandigarh Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has taken strict disciplinary action against an officer of the Horticulture Department following serious lapses in maintenance.
During an inspection of Shivalik Garden, Manimajra conducted on February 4, the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh observed grave shortcomings and deficiencies in the maintenance and overall upkeep of the garden. The condition of the public asset reflected gross negligence and lack of effective supervision, which was viewed seriously by the competent authority.
The lapses have been attributed to Sh. Rohit Garg, Assistant Engineer (AE), who is presently working as Sub Divisional Engineer (SDE – Horticulture) for the said area. Considering the seriousness of the matter, and in exercise of powers conferred under Rule 10(1) of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, Sh. Rohit Garg has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
During the period of suspension, the headquarters of Sh. Rohit Garg shall remain at the office of the Executive Engineer, Horticulture Division No. 1, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, and he shall not leave the headquarters without prior permission of the competent authority. He will be entitled to subsistence allowance as admissible under the relevant rules and instructions. The suspension order shall remain in force until further orders.
In consequence of the suspension and to ensure uninterrupted horticulture operations and maintenance work in the area, the Municipal Corporation has made the following temporary arrangements, in addition to the officers’ existing duties:
Additional charge of SDE (Horticulture): Sh. Angrej Singh, SDE (Hort)
Additional charge of JE (Horticulture): Sh. Shubham, JE (Hort)
This arrangement shall remain effective until further orders or till revocation of the suspension, whichever is earlier.
The Commissioner, MC Chandigarh has reiterated that any negligence in the maintenance of public assets will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against officials found derelict in their duties. The Corporation remains committed to ensuring quality civic services and well-maintained public spaces for the citizens of Chandigarh.
