Chandigarh, 27 January: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women celebrated the 77th Republic Day of India with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. Adding to the glory of this celebration, four NCC cadets from the college and representing 1 Chandigarh Girls Battalion, namely Taniya, Jasmeet, Mehaa and Varsha, secured 1st position in Drill at the Republic Day Parade held at Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh.

The celebrations in the college commenced with a solemn flag unfurling ceremony, marking the pride and glory of the nation. The ensuing cultural programme featured soul-stirring patriotic renditions by the students of the Department of Music, which evoked deep emotions and a sense of national pride among the audience. Adding intellectual vigour to the occasion, NSS volunteer Parishti Thakur delivered a powerful and thought-provoking speech on democracy, underscoring the role of citizens, especially the youth, in strengthening democratic values. The cultural segment was further enlivened by delightful performances by the children of staff members, whose innocence and enthusiasm won everyone’s hearts. This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony, wherein NCC cadets were felicitated for their achievements and exemplary discipline.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma exhorted everyone to optimise their potential to contribute towards making the nation stronger. She emphasised that freedom and inclusivity are cherished values that must be preserved to sustain India’s identity as the world’s largest and oldest democracy. Highlighting the significance of the Constitution, she remarked that it strengthens the spirit of inclusivity and unity. She issued a clarion call to the youth to effectively channelise the advantages of the demographic dividend for building a resilient nation and to actively contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, in alignment with the ideals and future enshrined in the Constitution of India.
