CHANDIGARH,22.11.25Gurukul Global School, Chandigarh, successfully concluded the Devraj Malik Memorial Invitational Basketball Tournament 2025, a prestigious sporting event for Under 19 Teams of Boys & Girls organised in the cherished memory of Late Sh. Devraj Malik ji, Father of School President Smt. Neena Setya. Bringing together 16 distinguished teams from across the region, the three-day tournament served as a vibrant platform for showcasing exceptional talent, teamwork, and competitive spirit.

The tournament commenced on 18th November with a dignified inauguration ceremony attended by President Ma’am Smt. Neena Setya, Managing Director Sh. Parveen Setya, Director Mr. Devraj Setya, Principal Ms. Urvashi Kakkar, and Vice Principal Ms. Renu Sharma. The ceremony featured a solemn Players’ Oath led by the Sports Captain, a melodious Welcome Song by the School Choir, an energetic March Past, and the formal presentation of Team Placards. The event gained immediate momentum with thrilling opening matches that continued from 18th to 20th November.

The grand Valedictory Ceremony for the Girls' Teams hosted on 20th November 2025 was graced by Mr Chander Mukhi Sharma, Secretary General of the South Asian Basketball Association, as the Chief Guest and School Director Mr. Deepak Dhiman.

In the Girls’ Finals, GMSSS Sarkaghat, Mandi, played against GNPS Sector 36, Chandigarh and emerged victorious, while New Public School, Sector 18, Chandigarh secured the third position. Individual awards were conferred upon Kashish Rai (GNSSS, Mandi) as the Best Cager and Zoya (GNPS) as the Best Upcoming Cager for their remarkable on-court performances.

The grand Valedictory Ceremony for the Boys' Teams was graced by Mr Anil Mehta, President of the Chandigarh Basketball Association, as the Chief Guest and Mr Maninder Singh, SHO, Sector 13 Chandigarh as the Guest of Honour. Their presence added prestige to the occasion and encouraged the young athletes to pursue excellence.

In the finals, Gurukul Global School, Sector 13, clinched the championship title, followed by Police DAV, Amritsar, and Dev Rishi Vidyapeeth as the first and second runners-up, respectively. Special honours were awarded to Sachin (GGS) as the Best Cager and Khushnaz Singh (GGS) as the Best Upcoming Cager, recognising their commendable skill and consistency.

Expressing her gratitude, Principal Mrs Urvashi Kakkar acknowledged the unwavering support of participating teams, coaches, referees, guests, and the organising committee. She highlighted the profound role of sports in inculcating discipline, resilience, leadership, and sportsmanship among students. The tournament concluded amidst loud applause and renewed inspiration, reaffirming the school’s commitment to nurturing young sporting talent and promoting Basketball at the grassroots level.
