PGIMER Organises Health Check-Up Camp for Hospital and Sanitation Attendants under ‘Swachhotsav – Swachhata Hi Seva’

CHANDIGARH, 30.09.25-In line with the national campaign Swachhotsav – Swachhata Hi Seva, PGIMER organised a two-day health check-up camp titled Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir for its Hospital Attendants (HA) and Sanitation Attendants (SA) on 29th and 30th September 2025. The initiative aimed at promoting preventive health and well-being among the essential workforce that forms the backbone of hospital services.

The camp was inaugurated by Prof. Ashok Kumar, Acting Medical Superintendent, PGIMER, who appreciated the contribution of attendants and sanitation workers in ensuring seamless hospital functioning.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ashok Kumar, said: “Hospital Attendants and Sanitation Attendants are the unsung heroes of healthcare. Their tireless work ensures cleanliness, safety, and patient comfort round the clock. This health camp is our way of recognising their invaluable role and ensuring their well-being. We are committed to creating a healthier and safer workplace for them.”

A total of around 600 HA and SA staff members underwent comprehensive health screening during the two days. The check-ups included routine investigations, general physical examinations, and counselling sessions to raise awareness about hygiene, occupational safety, and healthy living practices. They were also imparted counselling about healthy diet.

The initiative highlighted PGIMER’s commitment to employee welfare and aligned with the larger mission of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Beyond routine patient care, the institute continues to strengthen programmes for staff health and safety, recognising that a healthy workforce is critical to delivering quality healthcare services.

The Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir concluded with positive participation and feedback from the HA/SA staff, reaffirming PGIMER’s resolve to extend preventive healthcare benefits to every segment of its workforce.

World Heart Day Celebration at NINE, PGIMER Chandigarh

National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), PGIMER Chandigarh, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), organized a series of activities to mark World Heart Day 2025. The theme of this year, “Don’t Miss a Beat”, emphasized the importance of timely prevention, early detection, and consistent care in protecting heart health. It served as a reminder that every heartbeat counts and lifestyle changes can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The events began with a poster-making competition on September 15, where students highlighted the importance of cardiac health through creative art-work. On September 18, health education sessions were conducted in ACC, CTVS, and CCU wards to spread awareness among patients and their attendants. A health screening for patients and the general public was held from September 17–23, including blood pressure monitoring, BMI calculation, and lifestyle counselling. A quiz competition on September 26 further engaged students in interactive learning on cardiovascular health.The Symposium on September 29 was graced by Prof. Yash Paul Sharma, Head, Department of Cardiology, PGIMER, as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, he emphasized an insightful lecture on the emerging CVD risk factors, stress, and lifestyle influences on heart health, emphasizing the need for preventive strategies and healthier living to combat the rising burden of cardiovascular diseases.Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Principal, NINE, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest. Ms. Neena Vir Singh, Faculty of NINE, introduced the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat”. Dr. Dhinker Bahsin, Associate Professor, delivered an insightful talk on cardiac arrhythmias, while Ms. Mamta Suryavanshi, Faculty of NINE, presented session on hypertension updates while Ms. Bharti, Nursing Officer, ACC PGIMER, shared research highlights on Anaemia. A special yoga session by the Isha Yoga Foundation in collaboration with CCRYN added a holistic dimension by demonstrating practical approaches for heart health.

The initiative highlighted the importance of early prevention, lifestyle modification, and community participation in reducing the burden of cardiovascular diseases.
