Faith and Purity in Every Drop: Water from Rukmani Kund to Quench Thirst of Millions at Ohur

Bilaspur, 30 September 2025 – A unique water kiosk near Ohur on the Chandigarh–Manali highway has emerged as a model of faith, purity, and modern technology, aimed at providing clean drinking water to millions of tourists and travelers. The initiative, led by Rajesh Dharmani, Minister of Urban Development, Housing, Technical Education, Vocational and Industrial Training, has been implemented by the Jal Shakti Department, Ghumarvi Subdivision.

The water served at this kiosk is sourced from the ancient and sacred Rukmani Kund, a landmark of Bilaspur district known for its natural beauty and religious significance. The water undergoes advanced UV treatment to ensure purity and safety for consumption. A real-time digital display at the site allows visitors to view water quality parameters instantly, highlighting transparency and the adoption of modern technology in public services.

Rukmani Kund holds a special place in local folklore and spiritual tradition. According to legend, during a severe famine in the region, a devoted woman named Rukmani sacrificed her life, after which a spring emerged from the site, quenching the thirst of the entire area. Since then, this sacred site has been known as Rukmani Kund and continues to be a center of faith and pilgrimage. The water from this Kund is also believed to possess medicinal properties, particularly beneficial for skin-related ailments.

Minister Dharmani emphasized that the Ohur water kiosk is not merely a facility to quench thirst but a symbol of faith and cultural heritage. “This initiative will allow future generations to connect with our traditions while understanding the vital importance of water conservation,” he said. He added that the kiosk will feature a large LED screen displaying information about various government schemes, including those of the Jal Shakti Department, ensuring that visitors are informed about ongoing development initiatives.

Officials from the Jal Shakti Department confirmed that the kiosk will be inaugurated soon and dedicated to local residents, travelers, and pilgrims. The project is expected to reinforce Bilaspur’s cultural heritage while providing safe drinking water, making it a landmark public service initiative in the district.

Highlighting the importance of water in human life, Minister Dharmani said, “Water constitutes nearly 60 percent of the human body and is essential for digestion, nutrition, temperature regulation, and toxin elimination. It is the foundation of life, and every individual has a responsibility to conserve it and prevent wastage.”

Through this state-of-the-art kiosk, tourists and travelers will not only be able to quench their thirst but also gain a meaningful insight into water conservation, cultural heritage, and spiritual faith. The initiative is expected to leave a lasting impression, combining modern technology with traditional beliefs to serve both locals and visitors alike.
