Ludhiana 27 September 2025-Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana conferred Chief Minister awards to four livestock farmers on the 26th of September 2025. These awards were conferred in an impressive function by S. Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman, Punjab Mandi Board in the Vet Varsity Mela Ground.

Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education said that Vet Varsity is making all out efforts for the development of the livestock sector in the state by strengthening its extension programmes. In order to motivate various categories of livestock farmers, the university organizes innovative competitions by assessing the extent and impact of adoption of these technologies in improving the productivity and profitability of different livestock farming systems.

He revealed that In the Cattle Farming category, S. Sikander Singh Swaich, son of S. Ranjit Singh Swaich, village Kheri Jattan, district Patiala was honored. He has 218 cows and his farm produces 25 quintals of milk daily. He has installed a modern milking parlor and records the movement of all the animals with tags. An automatic machine has also been installed for waste management. All the records are computerized. He has established his own brand and is doing self-marketing.

Sh. Rakesh Manhas, son of Sh. Rajinder Singh Manhas, district Pathankot, an MBA graduate in the poultry farming category was honored. He started broiler farming in 2014 and now he sells more than one crore broilers per year. He has a daily supply of 40 thousand birds. His entire farm works on modern technologies.

In the category of Value added products, Sh. Amritpal Singh, son of Sh.Teja Singh, resident of village Daula Singh Wala, district Sangrur was honored. He started his business in 2024 by making quality milk products and is selling the products under his own brand by self-marketing. He has also completed higher education and was earlier associated with the teaching profession.

The other winner in the Value added products was S. Ramanjit Singh, son of S. Gurmeet Singh, resident of Amritsar. He is doing value addition in meat processing. He started this business in 2008 and in 2015 he automated his entire plant. He is processing about 30 quintals of products daily and selling them as ready-to-eat products under his own brand name.

These awards carry a plaque, shawl and citation along with cash money.
