Chandigarh, September 17, 2025: The Department of Social Welfare, WomeChild Development, Chandigarh Administration, launched POSHAN Maah 2025 today with a series of events aimed at combating malnutrition and promoting healthy lifestyles among women, children, and the community at large.
As part of Seva Pakhwada (September 17 – October 2, 2025) and to mark the formal launch of POSHAN Maah 2025, the Department inaugurated the Saksham Anganwadi-cum-Crèche Centre at Sector 19-B. The centre was inaugurated by Smt. Anuradha S. Chagti, Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, and Dr. Palika Arora, Director, Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development. The upgraded centre represents a significant milestone in strengthening early childhood care, education, and nutrition services, providing children with a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for their growth and development.
The event also featured a plantation drive under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” to promote environmental consciousness, and a pledge-taking ceremony across all 450 Anganwadi Centres, reaffirming Chandigarh’s collective commitment to nutrition and health. A Godh Bharai ceremony was organized to honor expectant mothers and emphasize the importance of maternal care and nutrition. In collaboration with the Health Department, a Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) camp was also held at GMSH-16 to provide support and awareness to pregnant and lactating women.
Alongside these milestone initiatives, a range of activities including health check-up camps, anemia screening, cleanliness drives, nutrition kit distribution, and intensive awareness campaigns are being conducted across the city to strengthen the Jan Andolan and ensure improved health and nutrition outcomes at the grassroots level.
Community-focused activities at Anganwadi Centres included youth group meetings to engage adolescents on health, hygiene, and nutrition; recipe demonstrations and awareness campaigns to promote millets; and a campaign for backyard kitchen gardens to encourage households to grow their own vegetables. Awareness sessions were also organized on balanced nutrition, hygiene practices, and the role of Anganwadi Centres as early learning hubs. Additional activities included lectures on herbal plants, awareness drives on anemia and immunization, and demonstrations on preparing ORS to prevent dehydration.
The Department reiterated its commitment to ensuring that POSHAN Maah 2025 continues as a strong and impactful Jan Andolan by actively involving communities, line departments, and stakeholders. The focus remains on sustained awareness campaigns and behavior-change initiatives to improve the health and nutritional well-being of women, children, and families at the grassroots level.
