Chandigarh, September 7:In a heartwarming display of solidarity, the National Awardee Teachers' Association (NATA) Punjab has come forward to support the state government's flood relief efforts, presenting a cheque of Rs 1.25 lakh to Punjab Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains.

A delegation of National Awardee Teachers, led by NATA President Dr. Balram Sharma, called on S. Harjot Singh Bains to make contribution to Punjab Chief Minister Flood Relief Fund to mark Teachers’ Day, while assuring full support to the state government in this challenging situation.

S. Harjot Singh Bains lauded the National Awardee Teachers, while stating “they are the pride of the Education Department”. He commended their initiative and efforts in extending support to the flood-affected people and their willingness to make a positive impact in the community.

Dr. Balram Sharma, Amarjit Singh Chahal and other members of NATA also assured the Education Minister that NATA Punjab will continue its support to mitigate the academic losses of students in flood-affected areas, underscoring their commitment to education during the crisis. The delegation credited S. Harjot Singh Bains for inspiring their initiative, who has been at the forefront of overseeing rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected areas of Rupnagar district.

Chandigarh, September 7:Rajya Sabha Member Sanjay Singh and Punjab Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond today visited flood-affected border villages of Fazilka district. The leaders personally distributed relief material among residents of Gulaba Bhaini village.

Sanjay Singh said that Punjab has been battling floods for nearly a month, yet the Centre continues to wait for reports instead of providing immediate relief. He expressed hope that during his visit to Punjab on September 9, the Prime Minister will announce a substantial relief package for the affected areas. He also urged the Centre to immediately release the pending Rs 60,000 crore due to Punjab under RDF, GST and other heads, a demand already raised by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He reminded that even though the Union Agriculture Minister had earlier visited Punjab, no relief has been provided so far.

Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond stated that relief operations in the district are being carried out with full speed. On Sunday, he marked his birthday by serving flood-hit people, personally carrying relief bags on his shoulders to deliver them to residents of Gulaba Bhaini village. He has been continuously engaged in relief work in Fazilka district for the past three days.

Sond added that as water levels begin to recede, the administration is gearing up for the next set of challenges. These include the risk of waterborne diseases and assessment of damages. He emphasized that medical teams, veterinary units, and district administration officials are actively working in the affected villages to ensure that every person in need receives relief supplies.

Chandigarh, September 7:In the wake of the devastating floods in the state, Punjab Animal Husbandry department’s 481 teams have been working relentlessly in flood-affected areas to ensure the care and well-being of livestock. Each team has 4 members comprising veterinary officer, veterinary inspector/pharmacist and a class four employee, informed S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries, Punjab.

Highlighting the devastating effects of the deluge, S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that 504 cattle/buffaloes, 73 sheep & goats and 160 pigs have perished across 14 districts, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Barnala, Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Tarn Taran, Patiala, Jalandhar, Rupnagar and Moga. Additionally, 18,304 poultry birds died in Gurdaspur, Rupnagar and Fazilka due to the collapse of poultry sheds.

He further informed that approximately 2.52 lakhs animals and 5,88,685 poultry birds were affected by the floods.

Underlining the key relief efforts being carried out by the Animal Husbandry department, S. Khudian said that 481 teams have been deployed to provide treatment and arrange medicines for affected livestock. Till now, 22,534 animals have been provided treatment. Additionally, 24x7 control rooms have been established both at the state headquarters (contact number 0172-5086064) and district level offices to coordinate relief efforts and respond to emergencies. He urged the public to cooperate with relief efforts and report animal distress to the dedicated control rooms.

He further said that the department has distributed relief supplies, including over 12,170 quintals of feed and 5090.35 quintals of green fodder, dry fodder and silage, to support livestock in flood-affected districts, in collaboration with the district administration and social organizations. Uromin licks are also being supplied to the animals to boost their immune system.

Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry Mr. Rahul Bhandari said that the department has already released a total of Rs 31.50 lakh for the treatment of animals affected by the floods. He also directed officials to ensure prompt response to distress calls, provide timely medical care and supplies to affected animals, and coordinate with district administrations and social organisations for effective relief work.

EM BAINS ANNOUNCES REOPENING OF ALL EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS ACROSS PUNJAB

Chandigarh, September 7:As the life gradually returns to normalcy after the recent devastating floods and heavy rains in the state, Punjab Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains today announced the reopening of all the educational institutions including schools, colleges, universities, polytechnic institutes and ITIs from September 8, while, authorising Deputy Commissioners to decide on closure of such institutions in the areas which are severely affected.

Elaborating on the reopening plan, S. Harjot Singh Bains informed that private schools can reopen on September 8 for both teachers and students, contingent on ensuring building and classroom safety by the School Management. Government schools, however, will have a different schedule: teachers and staff will report on September 8 for inspections, cleaning and damage assessment, while students will resume classes from September 9. He directed the school heads to ensure the cleaning of government school premises with the help of SMCs, panchayats, MCs and immediately report to the Deputy Commissioner, SDM or Engineering department if they find any damage to the building or classroom to ensure the safety of students and staff.

He further added that colleges, universities, ITIs and polytechnic institutes will resume regular operations for both teachers and students from September 8.

Emphasising on the safety of students and staff, the Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains directed the administration to take necessary measures to ensure educational institutions are functional and safe. School heads and management committees have been tasked with ensuring water drainage and thorough cleaning of premises.

Chandigarh, September 7:Showcasing an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people of the State, Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann has been closely monitoring the state's massive relief and rescue operations right from his hospital bed.

While recovering at Fortis Hospital, the Chief Minister has convened meeting with the Chief Secretary Mr. K A P Sinha, DGP Mr. Gaurav Yadav and other senior officers.

Expressing deep concern over the prevailing situations due to floods, the Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary that not even a single citizen, affected by the natural fury, be left behind; besides, ensuring food, drinking water and medical aid to them, especially those isolated and cut off from the mainland.

Following the meeting, the Chief Secretary Mr. K A P Sinha shared that the Chief Minister is recovering fast and is expected to join us on the ground in a day or two. The latter's heart and mind remain steadfastly with thousands of families affected by the recent floods and heavy downpour. The Punjab Government stands united and determined to heal the wounds of the floods and rebuild every broken home, he added.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister was apprised that as of today more than 3,87,898 people have been directly displaced and affecting more than 20 lac people in 2,050 villages across all the 23 flood-affected districts, severely affecting the economy of the state. The Punjab Government has so far evacuated 22,938 people from the worst affected areas. In addition, the state government has set up 219 relief camps. A total of 5,404 people have been accommodated in these camps. He was informed that across several districts of the state, a total of 176,980.05 hectares of crop area has been affected so far. Due to these floods, 48 people have lost their lives so far, while 3 persons are reported to be still missing in Pathankot district.

*Chandigarh, September 7:*Amidst the devastating floods in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led government, along with its citizens and Cabinet Ministers, has been working shoulder to shoulder in relief and rescue operations. Relief materials are being distributed on a large scale in flood-affected regions while ministers are personally supervising and participating in the strengthening of river embankments across districts.

Sharing details, an official spokesperson informed that Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema today participated in packaging daily essentials for the needy flood-hit families at his Dirba office. He reiterated that no flood-affected family should be deprived of relief supplies. He highlighted that all relief material was collected with volunteers from Dirba constituency contributing from their hard-earned incomes. Besides this, a truckload of relief material arranged by district veterinary officers was also dispatched to affected areas.

Similarly, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bans has been continuously monitoring the situation in Nangal and Sri Anandpur Sahib. He inspected river embankments and on the third consecutive day took command of the ongoing rescue work to fill the breach near Lakshmi Narayan Mandir located along Nangal Dam. He assured that he would stay on the ground until the relief operations are fully completed.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister S. Harbhajan Singh ETO dispatched relief material including medicines, dry milk, flour, fodder and animal feed along with a medical team from his Jandiala Guru office for flood-hit families of Ajnala constituency. He also distributed relief in villages Malikpur and Sarai and visited hospital to meet Simarjit Kaur of Romana Chak village, injured due to a roof collapse, assuring her of all possible assistance.

Likewise, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and Punjab Panchayats Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond visited border villages of Fazilka district, reaching Gulaba Bhaini by boat to distribute relief.

They expressed concern that despite Punjab battling floods for nearly a month, the Union Government is still awaiting reports instead of extending immediate help.

Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal inspected villages along Ghaggar river in Lehragaga and Moonak areas including Chadun, Kundni, Surjan Bhaini, Rampur Gujran, Phoold, Rajarherhi and Dudian. He thanked villagers for their cooperation in strengthening river embankments and assured that the Punjab Government is working round the clock to tackle possible flood situations in the Ghaggar belt without leaving any effort undone.

In Majha belt, Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar visited flood-hit areas of Patti constituency, distributed essential relief material and interacted with affected families. He was accompanied by Giani Raghbir Singh, Head Granthi of Darbar Sahib, who specially joined to take stock of people’s situation. Relief was also delivered to villages along Dhussi Bundh including Gharum, Kuttiwala, Basti Lal Singh, Ghullewala, Sabhran and Radhalke.

Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian toured flood-affected villages in Lambi constituency including Midda, Raniwala, Sarawan and Pakki Tibbi, assuring all possible assistance to residents.

Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh distributed medical kits in affected areas and directed ASHA workers to conduct door-to-door awareness drives. He also urged people to immediately dial helpline number 104 in case of medical emergencies.

Jasvir Singh Garhi to visit flood-affected villages of Dera Baba Nanak

Chandigarh, September 7:Chairman of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission, Jasvir Singh Garhi, will visit the flood-affected villages of the Dera Baba Nanak area in Gurdaspur district on September 8, 2025, and will also distribute relief material to the flood victims.

Sharing this information, the spokesperson of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission said that, inspired by Jasvir Singh Garhi, relief material and medicines collected for the flood victims by the Sant Sipahi Society, Ludhiana, and Bhai Davinder Singh will be distributed among the affected residents of Rarrewali and Mansoor Jhange.

The spokesperson further informed that Sant Baba Keval Singh Chakar from Tap Asthan Khuralgarh Sahib will also accompany Jasvir Singh Garhi with essential medicines.
