Chandigarh , June 18: Out of the 27 people who died due to poisonous liquor made of methanol in Majitha area of Amritsar district, 16 belonged to the Scheduled Caste community. To thwart the deliberate attempt of the Bhagwant Mann government to hide these facts, a delegation of leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Caste Morcha visited the villages of the affected families.
Acting on the petition filed in the National Scheduled Caste Commission by the State Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Caste Morcha, Paramjit Singh Kainth, the Scheduled Caste Commission has ordered the civil and police administration to file a written reply at its headquarters in Delhi by June 20. BJP leader Paramjit Singh Kainth said that taking seriously the deaths of more than 27 people in the border areas of Amritsar district in the month of May due to poisonous liquor made from methanol, the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha had raised a strong voice before the National Scheduled Caste Commission to get justice for the victims of poisonous liquor and had met the victim's family and assured them of justice. Sardar Kainth said that the notice states that the Commission has decided to investigate the matter using the powers vested under Article 338 of the Constitution of India. Dalit leader Kainth said that the Aam Aadmi Party led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann criticized the Punjab government for not taking effective action against the poisonous liquor mafia and said that the government has failed miserably in exposing the liquor mafia. Due to political pressure, the civil and police administration did not want to disclose the number of deaths of the Scheduled Caste community. He further said that the Aam Aadmi Party government did not release the compensation amount even after a case was registered against them under the Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989, but the Bhagwant Mann government's policy of dilly-dallying and indifference in registering criminal cases against people enjoying political patronage shows that the government is anti-Dalit. The Mann government wants to hide these facts. The Bharatiya Janata Party will not let such intentions of the government succeed.
