CHANDIGARH, 17.04.23-On the occasion of World Liver Day- 2023, the Department of Hepatology in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry has started a new service for the patients attending Liver Clinic in the New OPD complex on Monday and Friday at PGIMER, Chandigarh.

The service of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) Clinic was inaugurated on Monday, 17th April, 2023 by Director PGI, Chandigarh, Prof Vivek Lal in the presence of Dean PGI, Prof Rakesh Sehgal, Prof Ajay Duseja, Head of Hepatology, Prof D Basu, Head of Psychiatry and other faculty members of Hepatology, Psychiatry and other departments, nursing staff and other staff members of both the departments and the institute.

On the occasion, the Director PGI elaborated that alcohol intake not only damages various organs of the patient consuming alcohol but also has ill effects on the whole family. He said if the patients are committed, they can leave alcohol intake at any stage. Dr Duseja spoke about the rapidly increasing incidence of liver diseases including those related to alcohol, viral hepatitis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

It is important to be vigilant and do regular liver checkups. The message on the World Liver Day – 2023 would be to have a healthy lifestyle in order to have a healthy liver.
